  • I'm on Zyban right now. I took one per day for 6 days, stopped smoking that night and doubled up the dose after that. I quit on Sunday and it's been fine generally. I've had a bit of nausea at the beginning and I can't sleep well so I'm a bit spaced out at night but it's worth it! I've not had even an inkling of a craving for cigarettes. The thought crosses my mind every so often but it disappears quickly. I've had no feelings of "I want a cigarette!" the way you do when you stop cold turkey.

In conclusion, side effects aren't great but I'm sticking with it as it works so well for me. Obviously you could be completely different.

Tippytoes do you think the fact that you don't feel any worse, but you don't feel any better means that you are actually free but are expecting something momentous to happen? Just a thought. Well done by the way.

StClair. I begged my doctor for Zyban, got myself really worked up about asking for it and she just said "Sure, no problem - if that does not work, you can try Champix"!

Well Zyban does work and it works very well, provided you are not a dolt like me and still have an attatchment to those precious () moments with the nicotine. I was free, free as a bird, but I was waiting for any excuse to get back to smoking. Completely craxy. Hope I am not putting you off, for I wasted a lot of my life and then feeling too embarrassed to go back for help, so I had to cold turkey in the end.

Don't be put off by all the side effects. I had none atall - infact I felt very well on it. If you do get side effects then you can start to worry but just dont expect to get them - that is my philosophy. What about the side effects of smoking. Hmmm, no contest really.

All the best, go for it.

Ceebeeby hope the tears make you feel a whole lot better after you have shed them.
They are very healing you know. I myself need to have a massive cry every few months or so. Then I think of that song - "Pick myself up, dust myself off and start all over again". If something bad has happened then please don't take my comments to be lighthearted.

I myself have had some bad news tonight concerning a very dear family member. I am confessing this on this thread. I had made a pledge that if I did not eat sweets or chocolate then maybe, just maybe this bad thing would not happen. I couldn't do it. I am as addicted to them as I ever was to nicotine. I promised many many times I would stop smoking too and could never stick to it either.

I feel guilty and to blame though part of me knows that life is not like this, you cannot control events just by having thoughts about them or giving up sweets. Why am I telling you all this? There is no-one else to tell.

Did I really make this thing happen because I am weak and have no self control?

I feel terrible (but will not smoke!) :(

  • StClair - I've been given 40 tablets initially, you take one per day until you quit, then you take two per day ~8 hrs apart. I take mine at 8am and 4pm. From what I've read online, courses last about 7 weeks but I think a few weeks or a month would be fine.
I'm a bit scared about coming off them in case I start to get cravings. I've not had one at all yet.

Larmy16 - You cannot control what happens to other people and it was not caused by your behaviour. Try to remain strong and smoke free.

Thank you bucketshop - that was balm to my soul. I have been having a good cry too and talked it over with my sons fiancee.

Stclair, bucketshop knows much more about Zyban. I did type a message to you but lost it. Also bucket, I can understand you worrying about coming off them in case you get cravings, but I am more or less certain they will be psychological in origin, the most dangerous of course!!!! Bless you. :)
