  • Finally made it a week! It seems to have been a really long week as well - but I guess that is mostly because of work!

Pretty ill at the moment due to food poisoning, so the thought of a cigarette at the moment is repulsive - at least something good came out of that!

Keep going everyone as Tescos loves to say ... every little helps!

  • Hi everyone

I'm into my third week now and just wanted to say...the tears and the downers and the antsy 'what am I going to do with myself?' feelings all get better. They really do.

Your body has relied on this drug for so long it's just going through some healing and restoration but it does get better.

I have a personal belief that it will take a full year's cycle of my life to feel totally free of the drug. I want a first smoke-free birthday, christmas, summer holiday, good times, bad times, whatever. Once I've experienced a full year I'll know I can do it forever.

In the meantime, I'm trying to focus on just living my life as it was before this major upheaval.

There are many, many successful quitters in the world and we can get there too. I'd rather be someone who thinks about smoking 5 times a day for a minute or two, than someone who constantly obsesses about quitting.

Best of luck to everyone today. Have a relaxing sunday.

My older brother he started at 26 christ knows why? He`d never so much looked at a cig before then. I work with this woman shes really odd. She smokes at weekends but dont smoke at all during the week, its like she can turn off and on cigs like a light switch :D

I did that for a long time - only smoked on a Friday evening! I still wasn't happy though. Even if you only have one a week you are still a smoker, only by having none are you a non-smoker and I wanted to be one of those. :).

    Well done desertflyer :T:T

LC, well done, you have now got over the worst of it, please never go back :T it does get better, but it does take time. It's taken years and years for you to become as addicted as you were to cigarettes, it stands to reason that it's not just going to take a few days to 'unaddict' yourself. You don't need to smoke now and I hope you enjoy every Christmas, Birthday and Holiday without the need to light up. Congratulations :)

Well done to everyone else, you are all such inspirations and support to each other :T it's good to know that everything we have to go through whilst quitting is normal and we can all see from long time quitters that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Deal with each craving one by one and don't worry about the next one till it comes......they will become fewer and fewer as the days pass.

Plus think of all the money we're saving! I was in Mr T's queing for a lottery ticket the other day and noticed that a packet of Silk Cut is over £6   I remember when they were about £3 :o talk about being sucked in by the Government paying them all that money, then having to pay a fortune for NRT to quit!!

Sorry I'll get off me soapbox now

Terrible too to see the poor smokers having to shiver outside in this awful freezing cold. I know a lot of people have no sympathy for smokers but as an ex smoker I would feel like a total hypocrite.

Sometimes when I see one outside a shop when it's raining for example, I feel like saying "Are you online? Would you like to join our thread and rid yourself of that stuff?" I would never have the courage though! I could end up with a black eye!!!!!!!!:D

What a fabulous quote LC and so heartening to read that you are coming out of the early fog.

Well done everyone for keeping going! Although I'm missing Joanne ... come back ... come back!!

I'm feeling quite fraudulent that it's not the fags that are bothering me - just the stuff going on around me ... *sigh*

Maybe the smoking jitters will kick in at about week 3 which seems to be the week reading back over this thread? Anyway, whatever it is, I'm just counting the blessings that are littered through this thread ... your guys support ... to get me through it when it does eventually happen x

well half way through day 10 and still going strong at moment not sure bout everyone else but i seem too be waking up earlier and feeling more refreshed as soon as i wake up .. not needing too come round like i was a fortnight ago i now have a coffee and just get on with the day instead of the usual 2 coffees and cigs.
am eating more so decided to make more homemade things as i cant just eat it while i am preparing it and it is giving me something too occupy myself.

the menu tonight is homemade chunky chicken and vegetable soup with dumplings and trifle for later so all healthy except the custard and cream but am using semi skimmed milk too make it and added extra fresh fruit too trifle.

Congratulations on week 1 being completed DesertFlyer, wonderful news!:T I do so hope you're soon over the tummy problems though.

An excellent post Luckycharm :T and what a wise and very sensible, logical too view of having quit after a full year. For what it's worth, I couldn't agree with you more! Have a relaxing Sunday for you too!

Quite agree with you Jo so don't worry, twas a case of us sharing that soap box! ;)

I honestly do sympathise with smokers having/needing to be outside to smoke larmy, however, they might just be coaxed into quitting sooner as a result rather than enduring comfortable smoking for years and years and - killing themselves as a result! I laughed at your possible question to such smokers though, probably right about the black eye! :D

Well done ceebeeby, keep up that strength!:T
Congratulations glo for doing so well and looking for the positive parts of it all, marvellous!:T I'll have a piece of cake now please!

Continued deep breaths, water, fruit, exercise and healthy snacks folks - you CAN do this!!!

    Hi everybody

Im here, ive had my nose in a book for the last so many days. Im not going to tell you ive been good because, that would be untrue. Im back on the wagon. Im full of a terrible cold at the moment. Ive been reading with interest everybodies posts. Im full of determination again. My mums made a promise that if I dont smoke all day tom. she will give up too. Someone to encourage me great.

My boyfriend is totally anti smoking and is always nagging me about it. Sometimes I think he makes me worse because, I think to myself nobody tells me what to do. I tried explaining to him that if he constantly goes on about how much he hates smoking, it makes me want to do it all the more. But, thats just the way he is.

Has anyone got any advice on how I can keep my weight down. (My boyfriend is stick thin of course, he would be lol). Im a few stone overweight to begin with and am on diet pills. This weather doesnt help because I cant go out and walk for miles like I used to. Had pasta bake for t asda own. Very nice!

Im reading the super beach diet has anyone read it? Ive got martins 3 books. Can anyone suggest a good book about smoking?

Goodness me I chat more bubbles then asdas own!:rotfl:
