Happy new year to all my fellow non smokers and anyone new who may be joining us.
I will be 7 weeks clear at 9 tonight :j
Was on a bit of a downer yesterday and was very close to having a relapse. Put my back out yesterday afternoon though which has put me off the idea of doing pretty much anything at the moment.
To all who maybe lapsed last night with the festivities don't beat yourself up over it, just try once again.
Well done luckycharm first time having a drink and not lighting up is a hard one to go through.Smoke free since November 2009.

I'm just starting to realise that I can do this. Wow. I'm already a non-smoker. I just need to trust myself to stay that way.
Fee 100...good luck today. You can do it. Maybe try drinking something different from usual? I think that might have helpd me last night as I usually drink red wine but had sweet drinks instead (Bailey's, Sheridan's, etc) They never tasted good with a smoke.
We're still snowed in here. I'm going stir crazy and getting more worried all the time that when life goes back to normal I won't be able to manage my cravings and I'll smoke again.
Guess I need to take it one day at a time. Best of luck everyone. We can do this.Debt @ Dec 2009 £10,026.05

Hello all
Although I've lurked on the boards for some time, reading this thread (not from start to finish I must add!!) has inspired me to register and post.
I'm amazed by the support here and by how well you've all done. I decided yesterday would be my last day as a smoker and first thing this morning I caved in and bought 20I really want to stop smoking but I'm finding that I lack the motivation this time (I stopped before for 3 years). I've told myself all the things I'm supposed to, I've planned other things to do and made my list of all the things I'll gain from not smoking, but I'm finding that I really need the first cigarette of the day. Will it be harder or easier to have one in the morning and then no more? Last time I stopped I did it at night so that when I get up in the morning I was 8 hours smoke free but that motivation isn't working this time.
Any advise would be gratefully received.
Thanks0 -
I am a newbie. I've tried the inhalators but they taste of ashtray, as does the gum and lozenges. So I've decided to reduce, then go cold turkey. I've set a maxz of 5 today (used to be 20) and maybe 2 or 3 tomorrow, but hopefully none. Knowing I haven't binned them all is getting me through right now, so maybe I just need those 1 or 2 until I'm used to not smoking.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

How are you finding only having 5 Elfen? Are you spacing them out evenly through the day or are you having them at certain times i.e. first thing, after eating?0

ok im back again! had my last cigarette at 23:55 and put on a patch this morning - after a VERY busy day of cleaning everything - something i like to do on new years day to start the new year afresh ive just sat down and realised how fine i feel. I bought the boots own brand patches - 1 because they were half price and two because they start at 15mg - and as i smoked around 15 a day i think ive got the dosage just right. in the past ive tried the 21mg ones and they made me so dizzy and sick. and the tens still make me a bit scratchy.
anyway good luck everyone! im looking forward to day two!#113 12K in 2020 Challenge #113 £17,103/£12,000 £150000 -

Hi and welcome stupotstu! Quitting cigs is the greatest thing to do, believe me! However, if you're gaining weight then why not take to brisk walking or jogging, runnin g........anything that's calorie busting - then keep it up as often as you can. At 30ish you should easily be able to get that weight off and feel better for getting to grips with both vices!!
Wonderful news Luckycharm! You really are doing so well!! I'm sure it's working better for you this time round as you're possibly viewing it in a different way, more confident way. Age helps as well as the older we get we know it's a thing we NEED to do!!! I've just seen your last post, there you go, another lesson learned - if you have a bad day - look forward to the next being better as that's just about what happens. Keep it up LC and keep strong!
So well done Chrissie (3Xs Alady) you told it as you felt it and gave even more valuable tips on reading Allen Carrs book. You did what you knew you had to do for your health's sake and amazed us all, wonderful!!
Hi FEE, good to hear you believe it to be a cold, I hope you'll soon be over it now and feeling much better. You seem just like I was in that when I was excited about something before I would smoke. I think it worked with both excitement and anxiety. I usually have a mint instead. Congratulations on being 2 weeks smoke-free!!!
An excellent post larmy! It really does help others to know the step by step expectations and what to do at a certain stage - if it suits them of course. That certainly sounded just as I was, especially praying to God as I'd got to the stage where I needed help other than I could give.
Hi and welcome bucketshot. To be honest, I know nothing about Zyban, though we have had some folk who use it to quit. Why not seek help and support from your Dr, or the cessation Nurse at your local practice as they know a fair bit about most types of quitting aids and can guide you as you go? Meanwhile, stick with us and get plenty of support.
Hiya Puzzled! It's really good to see you again, though I honestly didn't expect any other news other than you'd stayed true to your wishes to NEVER smoke again! Thanks so much for reappearing Puzzled, it's folk like you who help newcomers more than you'd ever think. 6 months achievement is terrific Puzzled, congratulations!!!
Hi selinalauren and well done for getting so far, for that alone you've done marvellously!!! Go with your mum's words and - just don't smoke! Don't worry about numbers as they're only what others think, focus on getting through each day, each week and so on and basically - enjoy quitting and gett, we look forward to seeing you again!
Hi GunJack and welcome. We look forward to seeing you back as soon as you decide to quit!
Ah well, another lesson learned LuckyCharm, even if one day isn't too good, look ahead to the next as 9 times out of 10 the following one is way better!! Try to go with healthier snacks next time, better still, go for a really brisk walk!!
Congratulations Mollie, you've done brilliantly and should be so very proud of all you've achieved!!
Hi chocashopaholic and welcome! As son as you're able, read through the thread and you'll see just how well people have done - and this is the 2nd thread!!! Putting on weight is up to everyone, but you needn't do so if you're sensible about reaching for healthy snacks IF you need them. Drink water, sip it regularly too, both help a lot. Eat plenty of fresh fruit as it helps craving wise and certainly with losing weight!! The other thing to get plenty of is exercise! Start off walking then build it up to brisk walking and do it as often as is possible, you'll soon find a great difference!!
Must go now all, my cursor's playing up awful and you wouldn't believe how long this has taken!! All the best the ones I havn't been able to reply to, but I'm sent most of you PM's and am wishing you so much luck!
Keep strong everyone.

Hi everyone...just lost my really long post but basically wanted to thank everyone for your support. It's such a huge help to me.
Also to say I'm still enjoying all the benefits of smoke-freeness and it's fab. I'm sleeping better, have more energy, smell better, pain in my chest has gone, gums are less sore, it's all good.
I've always enjoyed running, never got very good at it (due to smoking) but I'm going to start 3 times a week again as of this week. I'd like to enter a race and see how I do. Maybe the women's 5k to start? Anyone else done this?
