I've been quit now for 21 weeks! Feel so much better but have gained 12kg in the process. I keep telling myself that it is better to be quit smoking forever than thin still.

Last time I quit it was 10 years ago in my twenties. I know if I have even one it would mean I'm smoking again for another 10 years or even longer!

Good Luck everyone that is going to try in the New Year! Champix Rocks!!

jo1972 I never wanted to give up cigarettes, I always thought I 'enjoyed' them, how stupid is that? But as SUE-UU knows something quite dramatic happened to a loved one (tobacco related) & made me realise I too was playing russian roulette with my life. I sat down one afternoon & read Allen Carrs book from cover to cover & as instructed I extinguished my last cigarette (in May) & I have never looked back, I really sympathise with people on here that are finding the cravings SO difficult to overcome, as (& I really hope I don't too sound smug, as I don't mean to) I found it fairly easy, maybe it was the book (I so recommend it) that helped me do it with ease. I don't know, but in 30yrs this has been my only attempt because as I said earlier I never wanted to give up. I wish I could say I feel healthier Jo, but that would be a lie in fact I really seem to come down with everything going since I gave up & at present I think I have the worst chesty cough I've ever had in my life, also piled on the weight (approx 1 stone) but would I inhale 4000 toxic substances with every puff again - absolutely not. I just hate the smell of it on anyone that's passing by (obviously my sense of smell is more acute) & can't bear to think that I too used to smell like an old ashtray myself. WE should ALL be VERY proud to that we're NON SMOKERS. Good luck to each & everyone of you & I'm sure there will be many more new quitters in the new year.

Oh dear, have terrible cravings today and still feel awful how can this be:confused:. Think it is just a bad cold I have as my brother in law who I was with on Xmas day is in the same boat!!
Had some very good news today and was most happy about it, does anyone think this is the reason Ive got such bad cravings, Im thinking that usually when Im excited about something before I would smoke....? Had a glass of wine instead and watched Eastenders...! hopefully it will have passed by tomorrow.
On the posotive side in 2hr 45 mins I will be 2 wks smoke free, saved £32.45 not smoked 124 ciggys and saved 10 hrs and 20 mins of my life:j.
Sue UU last time I was on patches five yrs ago I got the awful rash too but I dont like chewing gum and dont fancy the tabs either found the patches worked for me that time and hopefully they will again. Have much more pressure on me to quit this time as my daughter has been at me for ages to give up and would be most upset if I didnt do it this time so Im going to have to do it (will do it)! she`s actually reading this as I type!!
Luckycharm you are doing so well, keep coming on and get the support it will really see you through the tough times especially with you going cold turkey!
Just spent 20 mins trying to explain what cold turkey was, my daughter thought it was something to do with Christmas dinner :rotfl:!!
BruceWayne I never knew that drooth was a combination of dry and mouth, learn something new every day:D!
Well done 3XSAlady what a great post, I didnt know that fags had as many as 4000 toxins in them, tried not to find out all the awful stuff about them as was busy burying my head in the sand about smoking but must admit I hated gettin the cigarette packet with the black lungs and the healthy ones next to them... used to turn it over so I wouldnt see it all the while knowing that my lungs were prob like that or heading that way.
Was gonna try some walking today but just felt too rotten and still load of snow out which has turned to ice, so will leave that till the weather a bit better and me too!;).
Smoke free since 16th Dec 2009

Hi everyone, I can't quite believe I've made it this far. Why does it seem so straight forward this time? I've hardly even had a craving and previous attempts have nearly had me on my knees. Anyway, I'm just going with it for now.

We're still snowed in here. That's over a week now. It's quite nice to get such total rest but I'm wondering if the triggers/cravings will start once I'm back to my usual routine?

Fee 100...2 weeks...that's just amazing. What an excellent example to set for your daughter (sorry to confuse her about the turkey!) Keep going. You'll feel better soon.

Casper...I'm washing all my clothes too as I've just realised how badly they smell. I'm quite embarressed, especially about my woolly jumpers that I wear to work and don't get washed very often. :o

Everyone else...we can do this...what a brilliant way to start the new year!

Wishing everyone a fabulous, relaxing day.

I just found my little journal I was keeping when I first tried to quit smoking this year.

My first entry was 25th April where I expressed my despair with my addiction and prayed that with God's help I might stop.

My next entry was 30th April where I admitted to having failed.

By the 5th May, I was saying that I had finally quit.

My last entry was on day 29 where I was feeling confident that I had really quit, but was a bit concerned because I was eating instead.

So it works out that I am coming up to my 8th month on 5th January.

I am just sharing this as I know some of you have confessed to having a blip in the first few days and this need not lead to failure. Thoughts of smoking barely cross my mind these days and the time has just flown by.

So keep going. It can feel like an uphill struggle some days, but the reward is so worth it.

  • Hi everyone, thought I'd join this thread for a bit of support. I started taking Zyban yesterday and my stop smoking day is the 4th January.

Has anyone else been on Zyban?
  • Hi all :)

    Just checking in quickly.

well done to everyone who has decided to quit in the last few weeks, its hard, but you will get there in the end!!

Hi Sue and Larmy :D hope you are both well and had a fabulous Christmas!!!!!!!

Im still smoke free, it was 6 months on Christmas eve so doing well so far, this isnt my longest quit, that was 9 months but that was a fair few years ago, I am DETERMINED not to smoke and plan to be smoke free for ever and ever and ever ................. you get the picture lol

There are so many more incentives to being smoke free than smoking for me, looking towards the future there is no reason for me ever to smoke again - although i do have to learn to stay away from the chocs lmao.

Good luck to all new quitters, hang around for some brilliant advice and support, this is the place to be!

    Puzzled xx
  • Good Evening my fellow non-smokers and non-smokers-to-be.

I hope everyone is well today.

I have been smoke-free for 75 hours now. I was just wondering how everyone else got through the dreaded third day?
    And the third week?
    And the third month?

My mother has been a non-smoker for five years now but she says 'the threes are a nightmare'. The only tip she gave me was 'just dont smoke'
So was wondering if there was any more useful tips from all you wonderful MSE'rs?

Congratulations to everyone who have quit for 2 weeks or 21 weeks or 7 months. I applaude you all:T :T :T :T :T

I only wish that i had quit months ago so that i could be saying that now!

    I'm slightly jealous lol.

Best wishes to everybody and remember there is no such thing as 'just one cigarette' :silenced:

  • Hi everyone. How are the quits going? I had the worst day ever yesterday and craved all day long. It was really hard. All my good habits went out the window and I ate practically a whole box of chocolate biscuits. I had a row with my bank and got my car stuck in the snow so maybe these things put me in a bad mood and the cravings followed.

Anyway, I woke up today so, so happy I didn't smoke yesterday and ready to keep going.

I hope everyone else is getting on ok. Just think how many people will be joining us tomorrow. People all over the world will be quitting and we have a head start...yey! :j
Best of luck everyone. Have a great day and a wonderful new year when it comes.
