Hi Luckycharm and welcome to the beginning of a terrific journey, one you'll never, ever regret - so long as you take it day by day - and stay strong throughout. As FEE has come to realise, water is great in helping so please do as she's now doing, you'll reap the rewards of the help it gives, the freedom from adding on too many calories too. Always make room for exercise during every day, it really does help take your mind from any possible cravings as well as releasing the endorphins into your brain and giving you a great feeling of "aha....I think I can do this" :D Whilst walking, focus on breathing in that wonderful fresh air and cleaning your lungs, things like that help spur us all on. Keep talking to us as when you feel the need and always remember, you lived life perfectly ok before without fags, you can now look forward to living a healthy life once again - saving the money as a result too!!! :j

Hi FEE. Before we go any further - PLEASE, forget the 'blip'! It's gone and you're now doing well - and it's THAT which you have to concentrate on. Considering it's Christmas you've done wonderfully well and deserve a really good pat on the back! From the context in which it was used, I can only presume that a "drooth" must be a hangover??! Keep battling on FEE and you'll make it and be as proud as is ever possible!!!

For anyone else thinking of quitting, please take the bull by the horns and do so, it's such a great thing to do AND is a lot easier than most of us think! Anyone verging on coming on here...read through the posts and let's see if you can motivate yourselves towards a healthy life again - you deserve it!! ;) All the best everyone.

  • Thanks Sue and thanks for the pm too. It arrived just in time.

Well I've made it through the first day. Started off well, got LOADS of housework done, felt a bit hyper actually, went for a walk then afternoon visiters cancelled due to snow and it went a bit downhill after dinner. I'm in a bit of a grump but confident it'll be better tomorrow.

I've taken some herbal sleping pills as I'm fairly sure I won't get much of a sleep tonight.

    Good luck to everyone.

Very well done Luckycharm! No doubt the reason for you going a 'bit downhill' was due to the alterations of the day's plans, I think that happens to most of us at such times but the feelings are even greater when we're a little more anxious and especially as it was your fist day. You coped though and that's to be proud of. When you lie down, breathe slowly and deeply, relax and think nice thoughts, things like that do help. You're welcome to the PM. If I could do this for you I would believe me! Meanwhile I send you and everyone quitting, all the greatest wishes in the world to succeed and for your journey to be a wonderful one...the ending will be terrific, I can promise!

    Goodnight LC and sleep well.:D

:TWell done Luckycharm for getting through the first day, I know its hard but it will get easier. One day at a time, and before you know it u`ll be at your first week!!
Sue UU a "drooth" is a thirst, though I did have a slight hangover:rotfl:!
Just an update on my stats. Not smoked for 1wk 4days 8hrs, saved £26.56, I think Ive saved much more money than this as I would take the car to buy cigarettes so thats petrol money, and buy other things that I wasnt going out for and probably didnt need! Ive not smoked 102 fags and Ive saved 8 and a half hrs of my life!
Found that I was a wee bit down last night, didnt want to rush out for fags or anything like that, but just felt "funny"?
My cravings are getting less and less:D and when I do get them I just ride them out (like labour pains) a few minutes of agony an then they are gone.!! Whats different in the last couple of days is that, I just think "O its a craving" I dont want to scream and shout and kick things:eek: which is how I felt last wk!
Loving the water Sue UU not drank as much coffee as I usually do so that can only b a good thing, no done any excercise but my job is very physical so getting plenty excersise there. Would love to go swimming but there is no way Im getting into a swim suit with all those red patches on the top of my legs:eek: would scare children away !

  • I think I got about 4 hours sleep total last night. I need a better strategy tonight. Maybe a hot bath, some hot chocolate, lavender under my pillow and a dose of herbal sleeping pills. I'm exhausted today!

Well done Fee...I can't wait til my cravings get better and I can think more clearly. Sounds like you're doing great.

Well, on to the second day. Had loads more snow last night to even more snowed in than we were before.

LC, it will take a few nights for your sleeping patterns to settle, your body is no longer being attacked by poisons, it's no longer battling which changes the way you feel physically and mentally for a while. This can upset your sleep a little, but it won't be long before you get over this stage. Look at it as a positive :D

  • hi everyone,
Im a long long long time lurker on mse and come across this thread by chance a few weeks ago.
I have been a smoker for about 12 years (I'm 24!!!!!!!) usually about 10 a day but could be more if i go on holiday abroad or find myself with any excuse to smoke more.
Now I feel that enough is definately enough, lately I have been getting a really dry mouth when I smoke and I feel like throwing up afterwards (it's a bit like when you first start smoking and you get that awful sickness).
I'm thinking of going cold turkey as I want to free myself of nicotine as soon as possible and would really like to quit before new year as I would like to say 'I quit smoking in 2009'
Well done to everyone who has quit so far, you are all doing so well, I hope I have as much success as you guys :-)
I am setting my quit start time at 6 pm tonight cos I just want to get on with it! You could say I'm quite excited!!!!!!!!!

Hi Selinalauren. It is great to hear that you have decided to kick that miserable addiction to the kerb. You can do it you know! Also what a wonderful gift to give your 24 year old body. I didn't start till I was 26 - duh! What followed was a night mare from which I believed I could not escape until I found this thread.

All the best to you and here's to a happy, healthy and much better off finacially New Year. :)

Hi Selinalauren and welcome to the start of a wonderfully healthy life - again! You sound as though the timing is perfect for you and you're wishing to quit asap - well done you!! :T I've sent you a PM with lots of useful hints to make it easier and help you through any difficult times. Still, if it's already starting to make you feel ill you may not have any problems at all - so onward from here!

Luckycharm, Jo's so right in all she says about the affects of all the chemicals in fags and it will all soon right itself, but things like the hot bath, some hot chocolate, lavender under your pillow etc will certainly help you so much with sleeping meantime.

Thanks for the "drooth" explanation FEE, I'd never have thought that though! Feeling a wee bit down a little "funny" is really just your body and mind missing all the rubbish you've put in there, it's also you missing that rotten, no good 'orrible 'friend' that's been with you for so long - the one you're doing so well without! :T Keep counting your money, life gained etc, you're really getting positive now, great work!!! :j

Any lurkers thinking about quitting - come on in and join us - if nothing else you can give it a go and see how you get on. Nowt to lose!
