Fee that feeling will be on it's way to you very soon. Just keep going. I am so looking forward to you coming on here saying you hardly ever think about smoking anymore. I know you can do it - if I can, anyone can as I had such a strong psychological addiction.
The thought of having to go outside in this weather to get a fix is truly repulsive!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

FEE - readin what you have written - well, I could have written it myself a year ago! Every pang you describe is one that I felt - I had cravings that were so strong they made my knees knock!
The great news is that I lived to tell the tale (cravings can never kill you, only ciggies do that!) but I remember that really weird sense of sadness and loss very well.
What I said to myself was this: "If I really still feel this bad after six months, then I'll give in and start smoking again" That was the 'light at the end of the tunnel' that I needed to keep going when it got really bad - it sort of reassured me that there was an end to the cravings one way or another!
Needless to say, after a very short time I started to feel a bit better, then a lot better and now I rarely think about smoking (and I was a 15/20 a day girl for almost 20 years!)
So instead of thinking about smoking for 59 minutes of every hour, I now think about it for 2 minutes of every day. And it's no longer sad or painful, just a fleeting 'ooh I could do with a ciggie - doh, I don't smoke any more!'
Hope this helps - just stay strong for these first few days/weeks and I promise it gets easier and easier and easier.

I've just re-read this and thought it might put quitters off before they've even started!
What I was trying to get across is that however bad the cravings are, they do pass. They aren't rolling around on the floor 24/7 agony but for me, at times, they were mentally very tough. Please, pleae, please though don't think tha giving up can't be done or that it's so hard you'll never succeed - I and the rest of the 'successfully quit' are proof that it really can happen for you!:T SMOKE FREE SINCE 3rd DECEMBER 2008 :T0 -
Hi there Lily, don't worry as your wording of the first post came over perfectly well. You've so much to be thrilled about - though in all honesty - at one time I did wonder if you'd make it through, but oh how determined you were to hang onto the 'wanting to quit and rid yourself of those filthy little beasts. It's so good to see you on here helping others quite regularly! Keep it up as it really helps others!:DIm finding that I`m feeling a lot better too now, no got pains in my chest like I used to have (which was quite scary and I used to put down to old age) but what I realise now was actually smoking and prob my bod telling me to quit!! O I really hope I can get through this without ever smoking again. I want to wake up in the morning without even thinking about it, like Id never smoked in my life!
Hi again FEE, good to see you're hanging on! :T I really love to see a fighter and I think you have it in you to be the person you want to be and become totally free of this evil, dirty, deadly addiction. Hang on to those words of yours above, especially the fact that the pains in your chest being gone which could quite possibly have been the fear of smoking! Take note of all MumOf2's experiences, she's doing marvellously! Re the 2 o'clock problem; instead of going indoors and going through a difficult time, go for a walk for as long as time allows..yes, even if it's cold! It releases the endorphins and will make you feel so good about yourself, so proud! Then go on indoors and praise yourself and enjoy your favourite fruit - or nibble of some kind. IF you can possibly do so, then please try and steer clear of alcohol as that could make things tricky for you - especially IF you have a little too much over Christmas. if coffee has gone hand in hand with fags in the past then try tea/drinking chocolate or Bovril! You are doing so very well already keep it up and, as Jo says, keep breathing deeply at the times which are a little tricky. Fags never, ever helped anything and there's a GREAT life waiting for you without them!!
MumOf2, you are dong so very, very well and it's so easy to tell just how proud your are, and so you deserve to be! :T That singing will certainly do your lungs good!
Very well done Beaney!!! :T You did so very well in Lanzarote and 4 weeks and a day is a great achievement!!
A Very Merry Christmas to MumOf2 and to EVERYONE, have a wonderful time, especially at being a non-smoker! Stay strong and keep in mind how much you wish to be smelling so good and feeling so healthy! I wish you well!

O guys just read through all ur lovely encouring posts, and Im so very very embarrased to admit that on a nite out with friends las nite I had a puff.
Didnt want to post that but really whats the point. I did it, its done and it wont happen again.
I actually woke up this morn and this first thing I thought about was how mad I am at myself for smoking, usually first thing I think about is having a smoke or in the last wk "oh no cant have a smoke when I get up"
Strangley though today my cravings were not as strong, dont know if this is because I smoked las nite (it was just a few puffs from one giggy) but I have felt terribly guilty all day, didnt tell my hubby or kids as they would b so dissapointed.
I was being so bluddy smug in my last post too, all full of myself. Been truly brought back to earth with a thump.
Gave my daughter my car key today and told her to hide it from me so I would not be tempted to go out for some, Im worried that that 1 will lead to just another 1 or a ten pack or right back to where I started and I really dont want that.
Will have to stay away from the alcohol over Xmas and New Year or maybe just not have as much as I did las nite. That the last of my nites out over so hopefully no more temptations.
Ive not changed my silkquit stats as I`d find it too depressing, but if it happens again I will. Only allowing myself this one lapse and thats it.
sorry.Smoke free since 16th Dec 2009

I'm mad at myself too, tonight i went out and got very drunk. Am still quite drunk but no way as much as before. my friends went out to smoke and i just forgot that i wasn't a smoker or i'm not sure what happened.
I'm so disapointed in myself and now i just feel sick. No more smoking, i can have fun without it. I don't need it and i know this.£11,000 in 2011 = £71.740 -
FEE 100 and greenpixie, you shouldn't worry too much about it, you were both doing so well to get to this point, and definitely shouldn't let this one little slip set you back to smoking, the encouraging thing for you both is the regret, and the fact that you both talk about feeling sick as a result of those few puffs, any time you feel like smoking from now on, reflect upon how you feel now and hopefully it can be good as a kind of affirmation that you really are doing well, nobody ever said it was going to be easy!
I think it is probably a good thing that I am working on Christmas night and New Years night otherwise I would be worrying about falling in to the drunk/smoke trap myself.
I have just entered day 11, and a few friends have said that this is around about the time that they found it gets harder, although I am not sure why, I have noticed this too, the urges to smoke have been stronger the last day or two, but still going well. I have just downloaded silkquit to keep my motivation going, and it really is a fantastic little program, would recommend it.
All thats left to say is Merry Christmas to Sue, larmy, mumof2 and everyone else on here, you are a truly amazing group of people and I don't think I would be doing so well without reading all of your encouraging postsProud to be dealing with my debts

Thanks Bruce, we, including Jo, (who started the original thread) all do our darndest, and if it helps - it's marvellous!!! A very Merry Christmas to you too ....and a great NON - SMOKING year to everyone!
Bruce, I honestly could not have put my thoughts to FEE and greenpixie better than YOU have! A wonderful post from someone who's not given up for too long, brilliant!!! :T Great going with the silkcut, anything that motivates is so worth trying! Your friends, as you, are all individuals and we're all affected differently, but just keep on your guard and you'll be ok!
FEE and greenpixie, try not to let the few puffs get to you and ruin things for you. Treat it as a 'blip' and get back to where you were - please! Please take note of all that Bruce says, he's hit it right on the head! :T I'm glad you've fessed up and let us know, it helps us to help you, it helps you to help YOU too! We all do things we regret, especially where blessed fags are concerned, but the more we let them get to us the more we're inclined to take steps back. DON'T let that happen, just look straight ahead and keep positive and motivated as you CAN do this and give yourself the best Christmas present ever!!! Keep the alcohol to a minimum over Christmas or any other time - and beware of friends who'll encourage you, especially if they themselves smoke. YOU want your lives and health back in order, so pay no heed to them as you're the stronger!!! Good luck girls, though remember that we all make our own luck!Push ahead, stay strong and do all you know that will help you. DEEP BREATHS and EXERCISE along with WATER!!!
:xmassmile...A Very Merry Christmas to everyone! :xmassmile Have a wonderful time!
