  • Hi all, wishing all the quitters, old and new a Merry Christmas. Hope you all get what you deserve this year.

    Stay strong, Paul.

  • I haven't managed to read all of this thread yet but have read the first few pages and picked up some tips.

So far my quit plan involves:
    • eating lots of tangerines. I've quit before and the horrible dry mouth might just be resolved by some fruit.
    • putting no pressure on myself at all to do anything stressful.
    • allowing myself to nap whenever I feel like it. Maybe I'll sleep through the nasty 3 day detox period?!
    • drinking OJ as a solution to the light headedness
    • umm...don't know what else to do. Read through this thread?
The first 3 days are always the worst for me and when I make it through those I'll be pleased with myself and definitely on the right track. I've managed a few individual days without smoking recently but not 2 in a row.

I get lots of ear infections which are definitely made worse by smoking, though saving cash is really my main motivation just now. I smoke roll-ups and spend about £13 a week.

Anyone got any other tips for me? I'm getting a little bit excited about it. I love christmas and new year for the feeling of a fresh start.

PS. Anyone who has had a slip up recently, don't beat yourselves up for it (we have all done the same) but neither let it trick you into the old way of thinking "Oh I have blown it now, I'm so hopeless....I will never be free....might as well continue smoking", well that's not you, it's the addiction and as Bruce says it can get tougher the more days you are free. Little lilly is right though, eventually it rarely troubles you and even if it does on the odd occasion, it's such a small price to pay.

    Good luck y'all.

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good Christmas and managed to stay smoke free. Im still fizzin after my wee slip the other day:mad:.
Managed through Christmas day brilliantly though and hardly had time to even think about smoking. Was sitting with a cousin yest and could have easily sneaked out for a smoke with her, but would rather stay in the warm! Had quite a lot of  yesterday and still wasnt tempted so very very proud of myself. Woke up early this morn because I had a drooth, but was just thinking how much worse it would have been if I`d been smoking too!
Thanks for all the support after my slip the other day, this forum really does help, Im so glad that I found it.
Good luck for today Luckycharm your plan sounds good so far, another tip would be to come on here when u have a craving I found that really helps too. I didnt find this thread til I was on day five and in those first few days you really need the support,:hello:!
Im starting to feel the health benefits a lot more too, can definately breath more easily now and was up dancing for ages yesterday without feeling out of breathe! Only just started drinking the water from this morning never been keen on the stuff (a bit tastless:rotfl:) but had 2 glasses already this morn and its not too bad so gonna stick with water all day 2 day and see how it goes! Got my teeth polished about a wk before I stopped and looking forward to them not getting all stained before I go back in six months. I actually went to work the other day and forgot to clean my teeth. I just forgot ,not something I would have been able to do if Id been smoking as my mouth always felt yucky and horrible! but now it feels wonderful. LOL!
Greenpixie hope ur ok after the other night, everything Larmy says in the last post is so true.
Smoke free since 16th Dec 2009

  • Hi everyone,

Here I go into day one. So far I've had no cravings and still enjoyed my morning coffee. I have family coming to visit today which could be stressful but I don't think they're staying too long and I don't have to cook a meal so thank goodness for that. Otherwise the plan is to keep busy and read some of this thread when cravings happen.
Good luck to everyone choosing clean lungs and wonderful fresh air today. You're all my inspiration.

Good luck LC, keep strong and think how proud of yourself you will be when you are posting your first smoke free day is complete :)

Good for you FEE, don't let slips ups get you down, it's just re-affirmed the fact that you no longer want to smoke x
