  • Hi all. Been a while since I have posted as I have been a bit waylaid with other things.

Still clear and smoke free including a trip to a mates and standing in the garage with him while he smoked and I didn't have one.

    Silkquit stats are now:
One month, one week, six days, 20 hours, 12 minutes and 52 seconds.
    1315 cigarettes not smoked,
    saving £322.24.
Life saved: 4 days, 13 hours, 35 minutes.

For anyone lurking or who has slipped and started again, try again it may just work out. If I can stop anyone can, I was a real "I really enjoy it" kind of smoker. Although to be honest my dad made me look like an amateur he was into 50-60 a day kind of territory and he stopped about 6 years ago. If we can you can.

Good luck to everyone, hope we can all keep it up and all those who have lapsed and want to try again, manage it.

God knows what we are all going to do for a new years resolution though!
    Smoke free since November 2009.
Creditcard: Jan 2010 £2276.44. Less than £250 to go.
    Barclaysloan: March 2010 2764.66. Gone

    Hi all

Just wanted to say that I've been "smoke-free" for eight days after being addicted to the fags for most of my adult life. I simply could not justify giving my hard-earned cash to the chancellor (particularly as I so strongly disapprove of what they do with it), and it was for this reason that I decided I must give up. I'm surprised how painless it has been. Yes, I get the occasional urge to smoke, but when I do I just think about keeping my money in MY pocket and not swelling government coffers. I know it's early days, but believe me, if I can get this far, anyone can. Good luck to all of you........

Oh BTW, I'm on NRT patches....
  • Thank you all for your wonderful replies, i think its a support thread like this that really helps to be rid of the evil weed.

I have decided that 2010 is going to be MY year and i am going to get total control over my life.

I have got a savings account and everyday i am going to put my 3 quid odd in there and watch it mount up. Afterall, i didn't miss the money when i was spending it on cigs (listen to me. i only quit ten minutes ago!!!!) But i am determined. I can't stand the thought of my two little boys growing up with their mother poisoning herself.

Found out why I was feeling "funny" last night, I got a horrible cold 2 day, all achey and sneezing, dry throat, generally feeling rotten. icon9.gif Was at the supermarket earlier this morning and had to go to customer services to exchange something which is right next to the cigarette counter, didnt bother me at all ... had a look at the display and nothing, no desire there at all to buy them I was quite amazed at myself didnt even feel stressed. I used to always make sure I had ciggies, would never let myself run out and alway made sure I had them in the morn for first and worst one of the day.
Selinalauren your right about the replies they really do help to know that someone out there is rooting for you, well done on your first ten mins!:jhave you got the silkquit task bar yet? I love coming on the pc and seeing my stats it really gives you a boost to see how well your doing!
How are you getting on with the patches tippytoes? Ive got a horrible red rash on my legs for at least a week after I take mine off, it looks terrible but a small price to pay I suppose, well done on your eight days Im just heading into day 13 now and Im so glad I decided to quit, after 30yrs smoking it really was time to give my body a break!!
Smoke free since 16th Dec 2009

To resolve that no matter what, we NEVER, EVER slip and risk taking hold of that killer habit again!!! :j

Congratulations chevettehs, you've done marvellously!!! :T When names stop appearing I always wonder how they're getting along, thanks for dropping by to assure us of your success - your Dad's too!!! :T He's done marvellously!!

Very well done indeed Tippytoes, a really positive beginning and you're now over that first vital week, brilliant!!! :T I was so pleased to hear what you do when a craving hits, that's the way to achieve the end result!!!

:rotfl::rotfl:Oh.... thanks for that really good giggle in your bracketted part selinalauren, it really made me laugh - BUT - it goes to show just how determined you are to see this through - for the sake of your 2 kiddies as well as yourself! You'll never do anything better or more meaningful in your life.

Keep strong all the time everyone and remember if you want things to help, the most important ones are drinking water (and taking sips whenever a craving comes on), eating fruit as it helps with cravings AND stops you from putting on weight. The last one, but equally as important is exercise! The more you do the easier you'll find quitting to be!

All wannabe quitters, why not join us! :D

  • Hi everyone,

I've made it through my second day which thankfully was much easier than the first. Me and OH went for a walk in the snow. It was lovely to breathe all that fresh air and feel invigorated by it. I'm drinking OJ and water and eating lots of fruit, which is helping I think. I also got the best sleep ever last night.

Onwards to day 3! (Maybe I can actually do this?)

Best of luck to everyone on here. You're all really inspiring me.

Selinalauren, how are you doing this morning, congratulations on deciding to quit :D Good luck and stick around :)

Well done to everyone else, dont become complacent especially around this time of year, lots of parties, remember drinking alcohol reduces your willpower.

FEE, sorry to hear you are unwell. This might be because of quitting the fags. I don't want to put anyone off but as your body detoxes over the next few weeks and months, it will get rid of all the tar and carp in the body, helping it to breathe again, this can come out in a whole range of symptoms, trouble sleeping, vivid dreams, headaches, aches, bunged up noses, sore throats etc. This is a positive sign that your body is recovering so well done, I hope you feel better soon. Snuggle up on the sofa in front of the telly with your duvet with a hot chocolate and some magazines :) xx

Edited to add: that bit might put people off quitting, hope it doesn't, some don't get any symptoms at all, some people just feel free!

(In fact FEE, you might just have a cold :D :rotfl: and for the record, future colds will be a walk in the park compared to those you've suffered whilst being a smoker - your chest will be easier and so will your throat as it doesn't have to struggle to recover through the tar _pale_)
