Hi all
Have almost got through two days without patches and it's been miserable. I've tried every telephone number, plus some I've found on the internet (NHS). One not-so-helpful NHS worker, suggested I make a complaint about the service I've not received. Now that's what I call helpful, although there will be some red faces tomorrow when everything's back to normal......poor OH has kept out of my way.....Yes, it seems they do leave you up the creek without a paddle. I actually put a cigarette in my mouth last night and lit my lighter. Couldn't light ciggie, thank God. I've come too far....thanks for the support you guys give0 -
Hello & a happy new year to everyone & a huge welcome especially to the newbie quitters. I was recalling earlier this morning just how incensed & enraged I was a couple of years ago when the smoking ban was soon to be endorsed & how I felt it was an infringement of my civil rights etc, but strangely enough about 6mths prior to the ban in public places I ceased to smoke indoors after overhearing a remark by one DD to the other DD regarding my grandaughters cardigan smelling of smoke. I felt rather appalled with myself & vowed I'd never smoke indoors again & I didn't. But such was the hold on me I'd pop outside for a quick drag even in between commercial breaks etc & I even got into the habit of getting up out of bed most nights just to get my 'fix' I was a nicotine addict & 'it' controlled my life for 30 years.
I would just like to add how very liberating it feels to break free of the nicotine drug habit & feel in control of my life again. To anyone out there either attempting or even thinking about giving up the 'evil weed' please go for it as it will be the best thing you could ever do for yourself & also for your family. I now think the ban has been a blessing & has probably made it a bit easier for people to quit. Good luck to all & remember never give up giving up.0 -
Hi everyone and a special welcome to the newbies glodh73, mrs-d, jojododd and firestronaut. And anyone else who's just starting a quit. We can do it! We really can!
Tippytoes...I can't believe how you're being treated by your counsellor. Is there any way at all you could buy some patches and claim the money back? Or get a doc to write a prescription for some? I hope you're ok and managing cold turkey hell. It's not a lot of laughs, especially if you haven't chosen to do it that way but will get better after 3 days. Good luck.
Fee 100...how are you managing with no patches? Still ok? I've used patches before and found them pretty good but the gunk they left on my arm gave me a rash. Best of luck going it alone (you've still got us though!!!) It's too snowy here to run just now but maybe we could challenge each other to a training run or two once the weather is better? I really need a kick up the bum! I've noticed I'm much less stressed as a non-smoker too. Who'd have thought eh? It's great.
Hope everyone has a great evening.

Is the third day in the speedybee not smoking house and it isn't getting any easier. Anyone who's done it before know how many days it takes before it it possiable to think something other than "I want a ciggarett"
I have had the same lack of interest in local stop smoking services. I rang before xmas and was told there was nothing near my house or near my work (the city centre). Particualy gaulling as I often attend events at work and run into these smoking advisers. We have been paying their wages for years and just arn't there when you need them0 -

I know just how you feel!!!! I had a very tough first few days when I swear I could see cigarettes on legs dancing in front of me!! I honestly thought that I would always crave a cigarette and actually felt that I was the only one that was finding it hard. At some points I found it so hard that I said to myself many times (on about day 1, 2 3, 4 and 5!!) that if I still felt the same in a week then I'd start to smoke again.
For me it started to get easy from about day 6 onwards. I found that when I had a craving, it was still bad but it didn't last as long. Also the time between cravings became longer.
This might not be much help, but please, please remember that it does get easier and that you can do it.
Thinking of you.

Hi all,
Really, really finding it so very difficult now - the last two days have been terrible! Six weeks and 2 days - thought it would be so much easier now, but it isn't. The cravings have been there all waking hours for the past 48 hours, tingling in my hands and crying bouts. All the good feelings have gone and it just feels so bad I'd give in if it weren't for the fact that my partner has now given up and has been so very supportive.
Please help!

MumOf2 you are doing brilliantly - 6 weeks and 2 days is fab.
Come on, you can do this and you will. Its just that boring weird weekend after Christmas and New Year where everything is a bit non and dull.
Keep going, you'll be really pleased you did. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Sorry to hear you newbies having such a tough time right now....but hang in there.
At the chemist, I bought a plastic cigarette which had some kind of herbal thing in it. I found it extremely helpful and used to walk around just chewing on it.
I think it was about £1.99. Why not try and get one tomorrow.
Chewing on a pen helps too. I know it's no comfort right now, but it will pass....now you can see just what a hold it has over us. We owe it to ourselves
to get free.
Just read 3xaLady post. Very inspiring.
