I agree with Sue on letting the tears flow. So healing. We have been surpressing virtually every emotion with our smoking so it's no wonder there is an outpouring when we stop.

Bit inconvenient though, in the middle of Sainsburys!!;)

I have done just over a year now. It feels great.
I feel for the people in the early days. Not pleasant. The joy is that it does pass, and after a week or so the cravings are less intense and not as regular.
I rarely think about having a cigarette now, and if I do think about it, I dismiss the thought as stupid and it disappears.
Satsumas and water and some white knuckles worked for me. As did reading Why Quit whenever I had a craving.
Good luck - you can do this ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Even today I take it a day at a time.

Hey all, well day 4 is going errr... okay - ask my family and they think I've been taken over by the scary monster ;).

Husband has begged me to restart smoking, (in the same breath as wishing me dead) - maybe one and the same??? :p

Kick one bad habit at a time and all that ..... **sigh**:D

I'm so short of money at the moment that clementines will need to wait till next week (would satsumas work do you think - I prefer them??), although have got some tinned peaches in the cupboard :rotfl::rotfl:

Good luck to everyone, and thanks so much for the messages of support! :T:T

i have decided enough is enough and really No longer want to be a smoker . Its a first for me as when i have tried to stop in the past i,ve never really wanted to stop because i "Enjoyed" having a smoke but now am sick of being a smoker so hopefully i will suceed this time

i have smoked for over 30 years stopped for 5yrs whilst having family and i did have half hearted attempt 2 years ago and stopped for 2 months

I think too in the past i have kidded myself into thinking i smoke because i want to and not beacause i need to . i realise now it is an addiction and not one i want to have

so instead of buying more cigarettes yesterday i went into chemist and had a chat and came back with 2mg gum .

i used to smoke between 10 and 15 a day reallly really had to have a smoke first thing in morning with a cup of coffee . well i have had NO cigs today and chewed only 3 gum so dont think am doing to bad so far

    wish me luck

and good luck to everyone else quitting x x

Any sort of fruit will be ok. Think the satsumas/clemintines/oranges keep my hands busy! I cant get enough of crisps and chocolate at the moment my diets gone out of the window. I cant even excercise because of the bad weather. I will tackle the smoking then, when Im over that I will tackle the weight.

Ive got to admit that I had a drag on my mums cig. It tasted awful Nobodys perfect, dont beat yourself up over it. But Im going to stay strong in the future. Towards the end of my smoking I didnt even enjoy them anymore it was just a habit. A habit that Ive had since I was eleven years old, Im 33 now and am paying the price. I have chronic chest problems, astmha and suffer with scaring on the lungs from pneumonia. If I can put anyone off all well and good. To me it really isnt worth it.

Thank you all for your hints and tips.

Hi everyone and a special welcome to the newbies glodh73, mrs-d, jojododd and firestronaut. And anyone else who's just starting a quit. We can do it! We really can!

Fee 100...how are you managing with no patches? Still ok? I've used patches before and found them pretty good but the gunk they left on my arm gave me a rash. Best of luck going it alone (you've still got us though!!!) It's too snowy here to run just now but maybe we could challenge each other to a training run or two once the weather is better? I really need a kick up the bum! I've noticed I'm much less stressed as a non-smoker too. Who'd have thought eh? It's great.

Hope everyone has a great evening.

I`m still plodding on without the patches and sometimes I feel ok and other I feel like I could go a smoke:o but really dont think I will now,I just keep remembering that it`ll pass an its only a craving its not killing me like it did first week ;)! I actually did do some excercise the other day, I walked to my sis`s to pick up my car (about a mile) not easy as the pavements here have not been cleared yet and its been 2 wks since we had the heavy snow fall!. Will start doing some excercise once life gets back to normal, kids back at school etc.
Welcome jammydoger Im a 30yr girl myself so can sympathise. This is a great place to come for support and encouragement so good luck:D!

Thank you fee I found that article very interesting. Well I was supposed to go and see the health advisor but, because of the fact I didnt want to inflict my cold on some unspecting members of the public at the drs, (plus the fact everyone looks at you as if you have swine flu and runs in the opposite direction). Also I hate the ice and its quite bad in sunny mcr at the moment, I didnt go. I have enough patches until next week, and have made an appointment for this friday. Does anybody suffer with really bad heart burn whilst on patches/inhalator or as I am on both?

    good luck:j
