Thanks, Penelope. Sitting here crying with frustration and craving...

This weekend has been a flashpoint for a family argument - really, really bad. How I'd love to go outside and light up. I'd go for a walk but it's so icey outside that it's dangerous.

As you say, must keep going...

  • Come on, you can do it. Go and make a cup of tea or coffee and stop stressing over the family - that will mend itself in its own way when its ready to.

Day 1 for me, after many many failed attempts. We have to do this or we are just chucking money down the drain. Think of all the clothes we could buy instead. Pen x
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
  • sorry that the newbies are having such bad times!!!!!

I remember how hard it was at the start (every time i quit before the last time it seemed to get worse)

the only advice i can offer is as follows, hope its useful!

Get busy! anything that will keep your hands and mind occupied at the same time is great

Dont punish yourself, remind yourself you are not being punished, you are improving yourself!

Eat something - crunchy worked for me but whatever gets your mouth busy to work through the hardest moments is great.

Think about how far you have come rather than how far you have left to go

Remember the worse things about smoking for you (these are diferent for everyeone)

Get through each HOUR at a time, break the day down, sleeping = 8 hours not smoking , eating 3 meals a day/cooking/washing up = 3 hours not smoking, that leaves you with just 11 hours to sort, if you are taking little ones to school etc ironing, washing, clening etc etc then just tott up the hours and before you know it you are looking at about 3 hours that are unfillable and hopefully you can then see that you have already done 21 hours so 3, well thats nothing :D

Stay strong and remember, no matter how long or where your journey takes you the destination is the same as ours :)

    Puzzled x

Thank you all for your support. I havnt smoked yipee! I have been tempted but my boyfriend gave me a compliment today (i think!!). His words were: you look really natural. (hope I didnt look plastic before lol). Mum said I look 5 years younger its only been 3 days. I think its was more the fact that she was trying to encourage me. Wanted to ask larmy16 advice please: If Im gasping really badly is it ok to change the patch a couple of hours earlier?. Also would stopping smoking cause me to vomit?

It is really helping me reading everyones posts and encouragement. I try and come on as often as I can. Having problems sleeping didnt get off until 7.30. But, from what I read on here thats only natural.

    Thanxs again

Hi Jo, do you mean that you feel the patch is too weak to meet your cravings? If so, I am sure it is ok to put the next one on - anything is better than smoking I would think. What strength are you using?

My experience with patches was this. I would use them for a few days, then forget to put them on and then start smoking again.....which of course you are not so daft to do. This my last quit, I used them for a week or so and then just stopped. I really think it is best to stay the course if you can.

If you are leaving your patch on overnight, they really can disrupt your sleeping. I had some very disturbing dreams. Some people take them off when they go to bed.

Jo you are doing really well. Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight. You could also invest in some of those Sleepy Time tea bags. Just be extra kind to yourself as you go through this. :) X

PS. regarding the vomiting question - could it be that you are experiencing some anxiety? If so this is perfectly natural.

  • Thanks for the encouragement. The thought of still feeling like this in 6 weeks has set me off on another random weeping fit though.

Will book myself in for a facial tomorrow to cheer myself up. Never had one befor so thinking it will be good to celebrate a first smoke free week. Would still prefer a cigarette at the moment though:(

Speedybee you are experiencing the worst part of smoking and that is the psychological attatchment - no comfort I know, but it is your mind that is causing you so much torment. You have done so well to get this far and it is most most unlikely you are going to feel like this by week 12! I can just see you posting how good you are feeling about yourself.

Get a good nights sleep. You are doing such a great thing. Be very proud of yourself. X :)

Im on 21mg patches and use the inhalator. Im only getting through 1 strip of cartridges a day. I used to smoke between 40 and fifty a day. I do leave the patches on through the night because I get the worst cravings last thing at night and first thing in the morning. In saying that they seem to be costant at the mo. I need to suceed this time. I am in quite bad debt and also, for my health. I am determined. Ive got an appointment with a health advisor tom about smoking. Usually I say I havnt managed it this time. Its great I will have somthing positive to tell her: 3 days:j

Thanxs for the tip about the herbal teabags will go and get some when the weather is abit better.

    Best of luck everybody x

    Hi,

Can I join this thread please - I'm now 3 days smoke free (I was a new years resolution quitter!). I smoked 10 - 15 a day for the past 20 years (only quit when pregnant).

I'm doing it cold turkey as cannot get to GPs for patches etc. and can't afford them. I'm also trying to do it whilst losing 2 stone (am I mad!) so although the cravings for fags and chocolate is huge - I'm resisting both massively.

The biggest benefit I've noticed so far is the lack of stinky / smelly hair!!

All advice and support will be very gratefully received.
