Awwww Larmy thats a great post hun! Summed it up for me anyway!
You can do this Happymumof3 just ahve confidence in your ability to quit and ONE DAY AT A TIME, this seems to be working for me, jusy concentrating on getting through 24 hours, seems to take the pressure off a bit.
2 weeks today for me and i am feeling great! So positive! The cold turkey is working great so far and i really don't see any reason for it to fail to be honest, have had the stress situation have had the lows the highs the cravings the on the edge of caving in situations and i have survived so far!!! haha
One day at a time is a really good tactic to use as the mountain is not so high, i wake up every morning and say " I choose not to smoke today" and i go to bed saying " Well done Michaela!", I know it might seem strange but it really is working for me. Hubby has had a relapse but is getting bak on the wagon today, he is really struggling at the minute but i am trying to give him all the support i canI know we can do this, this has got to be one of the hardest things i have dome in my life but like the saying goes " Anything worth doing is never easy" this is the code i live by
Enough of my ramblings and i just wanted to say to each and everyone of you this thing can be beaten just trust in yourself

The last time I tried I actually burst into tears before going to the shops and buying some - how sad is that??!!!
I saw that my local Asda is selling a Nintendo DS 'game - coach' thing, to help give up smoking - just wondering if anyone else has this or has used it and if it is any use? I nearly drove down there tonight to pick up a copy, but have decided to wait till morning when I have to take my son to a party which is right next to the store!
Obviously I shouldn't be smoking as I am pregnant, but however hard I try I just can't stopReally really would like to crack this before my new bubba is here, but no matter how much chewing gum/extra strong mints or sweets I have stocked up, its only a matter of days before I fail again.
You've got half the battle won - you've decided to stop smoking and you're determined.
There's lots of ways to help you - NHS helplines/clinics, patches/inhalers etc - it up to you to decide which will suit you best.
Whenever you have a weak moment just come this thread - there's folks here to help - someone will have had an identical problem.
I'm just about three months in - I don't think about smoking, no cravings etc was easy from day one - just a desire that others realise that it is easy to stop smoking.
I did it via an Allen Carr audiobook and I was amazed at how it worked.

Happymumof3, congratulations on your pregnancy
Forget take a day at a time, take a craving at a time instead, you will find as the days move on, the cravings become less. A craving in itself only lasts a minute or two provided you keep yourself busy and try to ignore it. If you dwell on it it will last longer and cause you unnecesary grief. Do this for your baby, you can do this, your baby is the best incentive that anyone can have. Good luck, keep posting, keep reading the thread and get all the support you need

hello everyone:hello:
please can i join thread? im on day 7 of no smoking and on champix.ive tried so hard to give up before with other methods but i always went back to the cigs, but this time its a definitelol.
i have to say that i wish i has tried these tablets before as although will power is still needed as with anything,it has definitely helped enormously.the down side is that they make me sicky and everything tastes wrong.ive enjoyed reading this thread and congrats to all that are doing so well and that have decided enough is enough and are trying.
i am still putting the money aside as if im smoking as its so rewarding and makes me proud of myself to see it build up instead of being ash .
im going to use the money to treat us all ,especially my children:j
we should all give ourselves a pat on the back :T0 -
Hi all non/future non smokers.
I've had one of those lightbulb moments and really need to start dealing with the debt I'm in, while also trying to save my marriage.
Probably not the best time to stop smoking and drinking but I need to start saving.
It's been good reading the posts, just to realise that i'm not the only one in this situation.
Anywhoo, tomorrow is the start of a new month and I'm determined to start it as a non smoker and just the occasional drinker (I don't have a problem with drink, just enjoy a few during the week and maybe a few more than I should at the weekend, but it all adds up)
Good luck to all those trying to give up those evil sticks, I'm sure we can get through this together :silenced:0 -

It has been lovely to read everyone's words of encouragement, I went to Asda's this morning to pick up a copy of the Alan Carr DS Give up smoking coach game which I saw in there last week reduced to £9. But they had sold out!!!
Anyway, came home and had a look online, and have managed to buy one from a private seller on play.com for £2.99 including postage, so have even managed to save a bit of money lol
Am not expecting it to arrive till middle of next week, but have only got 2 cigarettes left in my box and I am very reluctant to go to the shops and buy more, so I am going to give this a good go this afternoon. I can normally manage the first couple of days okay, its normally day 4/5 that my willpower really starts to crack and my temper is very short (my poor family!). Obviously as being pregnant, as far as I am aware I should not use patches or tablets to help me give up - but I do have a small stock of nicorette chewing gum in the cupboard which I will use (very sparingly) if things get really bad.
Will let you all know how I get on, no doubt I will be posting on here A LOT so please be warned! And well done to all of you who are doing so well to crack this awful habit :T And thanks again for all your help and support x2013 Wins: The No-Nonsense Guide to Climate Change Book, CBeebies Satchel, Liora Swarovski Elements Necklace, The Snow Womble Book, Crystal Earrings, £100 Cash, Ferrero Rocher Chocs, Yuko London Hair Products0 -
I have done 7 months without a ciggie. It can be done, even though I thought it was impossible.
I admitted I was hopelessly addicted to nicotine, and then my recovery could start. Accept it, and then fight it.
Not once in 7 months have I thought a cigarette would improve things - sure I have wanted the occasional drag, but that goes and I think how glad I am I don't smoke0 -
hi happymumof3
i can really understand how hard it is.when i was pregnant with my first child 12 yrs ago i smoked and did manage to stop but found it so hard.it sounds awful but apart from looking forward to meeting my baby i was also looking forward to a ciggie after the birth.i did and continued to smoke.
i had my second child 14 months ago and managed to stop until she was born and started again straight after until now.i never smoked indoors which i guess helped.when i was pregnant and wanted a cig i used to have one of those fake ones from the chemist and puff on that.
it helped but i got so stressed that i remember having a few puffs and hating myself for it but couldnt stop myself.
have faith in yourself and dont let the cancer sticks beat you .keep posting in here when you weaken and get stressed.good luck.0 -
Welcome Ladylumps, love the username!! Congratulations and good luck for your non-smoking future x
Deeks, good luck to you too, it's going to be a new month and a new you! Why not read the giving up/cutting down drinking thread? There are loads of cutter downers, you don't need to have a drink problem to post on the thread, everyone is so lovely, friendly and helpful. We have a monthly AFD (alcohol free day) challenge, why not set a target and join in? x
GC, you have done fantastically, well done
Happymumof3, good luck for the next few days, I hope the DS 'game' works for you, please give us feedback when you get it!
Rossy, glad to hear the 'just for today' think works for you, we all have to try different things to make it work. I find, especially at the beginning, that to break it down into smaller segments works for me, very soon a day seems more manageable. There are no right or wrong ways to deal with it, so long as it workswell done and good luck x
