  • Good luck on tackling the weight gain Larmy. I replaced smoking with exercise when I gave up in march, more so at the beginning, it has tailed off a bit now, but I have now lost a stone since giving up smoking.
I reckon if we have the willpower to resist nicotine, that food is nowhere near as tricky to contol. You've cracked the big one, if you can do that you can do anything ;)

Shimmershelly that is great encouragement! Thank you.

I don't know or have time to work out how to do the signature bit at the bottom of the posts so will have a look later.

    For the record though.

Week 1. 10 stone 5 lbs My aim to lose one stone in however long it takes!
I shall report in each Monday morning.

Good luck to all quitters this week. Any who jumped on board last week, hopefully you are through the initial 3 day period, during which the nicotine leaves your body and is the worst time for cravings. Keep posting all.

Thanks Shimmershelly. Couldn't quite see how you get all the different colours but that will do will it not?

  • Helloo folks, thanks for the warm welcome the other day, i've been sneeking a read every now and then but am supposed to be boxing everything up for our move in 11 days time!

I'm so very proud of myself... not a single fag for 5 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:A

I can smell things better already (lost my sence of smell for a while due to illness & smoking)
The strange thing is food I've gone off so much I'm eating bad foods or toast coz I don't want anything else, is that normal??

Oops, sorry waffled on a bit...

Keep up all the good work everyone xx ;)

  • Well its three months for me today since I [STRIKE]gave up[/STRIKE] stopped smoking.:T

I put it off - thinking it would be too hard and convinced myself that I couldn't do it then but would be able to at the end of the packet, next day etc.

Do I miss it - YES - its given me all this free time to do things I've always intended to do. I'm no longer tied to when I can have a cigarette - yes I miss it its given me freedom. Plus the money to do those things you couldn't afford before.

Do I want a cigarette - you've got to be joking !! No cravings - just a regret I didn't do it long ago.

So, if you're apprehensive like I was - don't be - you can quit !!!

Best wishes to everyone - especially those just starting out on the road.

PS RIP Sir Bobby Robson - just given a little of my money saved to his cancer charity.

Well done MrsGibbs and AllthatMularkey. Good to hear about your successes. It is by reading this thread and reading about other people quitting and going through various stages, that certainly kept me on track.

It's wierd. One day you are apprehensively spending your first day smoke free and then before you know it, you are three months on, feeling soo much better and barely thinking about this substance which has had you enslaved for so long.

    Have a good week everyone!:)

    Hi All,

Well done for the progress you have made Larmy :) and everyone else of course lol.

Im still quit, its almost 6 weeks now and im feeling so much better, had my second very drunken night out on the weekend and despite the alcohol managed to resist :)

I know that i dont come on and post much at the moment, but im seeing that as a positive thing, last time i quit i was coming on here 4 or 5 times an evening just to write something to remind myself i wasnt smoking and to look at the silk quit monitor - but now, i dont need to, smoking is my every thought which is sooooooooo relieving :)

Hope everyone is well and keeps up the good work :)

Right, I've set my date. From when I go to bed tonight I will stop smoking. From then onwards I will be a smoke free zone.

    Will report back tomorrow evening.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
