I admitted I was hopelessly addicted to nicotine, and then my recovery could start. Accept it, and then fight it.
Not once in 7 months have I thought a cigarette would improve things - sure I have wanted the occasional drag, but that goes and I think how glad I am I don't smoke
Thanks for the words of encouragment Graeme. I remember you way back in May when I first joined the thread. Great to hear you are doing so well.
In my past attempts I still retained an illusion that nicotine was doing something for me, eg. relaxing me, being a reward etc. The truth was I was hopelessly addicted. I don't have any illusions about it now. Still do have the odd fleeting memory of it though - the inhaling thing I think. Deep breathing helps with that though.
I totally agree with the admitting you are hoplelessly addicted to nicotine. In doing so, somehow you are able to let go of the hope of controlling it. You can then begin the journey of a life without smoking.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Went on the champix in march, and gave up a week later, killed a 20 yr smoking habit in one attempt, after countless on the patches/willpower/fad attempts.
they work, and they are free from your GP. cannot recommend them enough0 -
Jo many thanks for the kind words and warm welcome.
Things look like they are over between me and my wife after a long discussion tonight but even so I feel so positive that tomorrow can be the turning point in my life.
I'm gonna start doing things for myself
We all have the strength within to deal with adversity. Me? I'm gonna eat a celery sticks every time I fancy a fag. Yes, I'm swapping one evil stick for another :rotfl:
When I get past this I'll need to do that sop and snowball thing that they mention on the other threads
It's going to be a long one0 -
Good for you Deeks and the celery sticks sound like a very wise idea.
Well as from Monday I am going to start my losing the weight I gained while stopping, mainly due to replacing the cigs with sweet stuff, though I always had a problem with that too.
Hope you peepsies don't mind if I combine my posts about that as well as the staying stopped. I wont be going into details of my "menus" or anything like that, just sharing when I am making progress, that kind of thing.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Thanks Larmy, best of luck with giving up the sweet stuff.
I feel a bit guilty about posting that as I've just scoffed a boost.

OOh I love Boosts. They are actually one of the highest calorie choc bars too and the best.
Hey, I meant to say sorry to hear about you problems with your wife. As you say it will be tough to try to stop smoking and drinking completely but even if you can just cut down and then set a date to quit very soon. The smoking thing is a problem you definitely don't need anyway.
All the best to you though . x Keep posting Deeks.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
