    Hello all.

Well we are the mid week stage and I have a case of the blues. Nothing too serious but just low on energy and got that "what's it all about" feeling. I dare not complain about the weather either, as I seriously hated working through the heatwave not so long ago.
I get really down in the heat, well that and irritated etc.

Anyway, smoking is not anywhere on my horizon. Thank goodness. Hope all you quitters out there are doing ok and staying strong. :)

Mrs Gibbs welcome to the thread. The biggest tip I can give you is to read the thread itself - I know it is very long so maybe go back half way. That way you can see people joining in, sticking with it and then popping in occasionally as they find smoking no longer dominates their lives and they can get on with the business of really living (and not smelling!)

You will find every tip in the book along the way. They are too numerous to mention.

Every journey starts with one step. The step for us is making the decision and stubbing that last cigarette out. We have to dig deep within ourselves to prepare for battle - for some this is easily won, for others they have to don a stronger armour mainly to fight a strong psychological addiction. The physical is gone very quickly - really three days on average. After that it is us playing tricks on ourselves.

We have to look out for our number one enemy. Ourselves! We will be looking for every excuse to light up. I find it helps to see the tobacco as the enemy - I gave it a name, Nick. It will nag us to have just one puff, one cigarette, tell us we can stop again after that.

Some people however stop, and never ever look back.

The weight thing again is not inevitable. For me, I have a problem with comfort eating too so that is another thing I have to tackle. That was in addition to the smoking, but the smoking did help keep the eating at bay.

Read the thread. Please do. You will find many like yourself. We have lot's in common on here and really support each other. :)

Mrsgibbs, I had very little patience when I was a smoker and so did my OH but we've both been suprised at how much calmer we are given that cigarettes dont rule our lives any more. If you can have 1 ciggie in 3 days you can go 1 day at a time not having a fag and see if you can go a week, all the best, Paul.

I have Type 1 Diabetes and I spoke to my Diabetic Nurse, who got the ball rolling for me, so I should imagine that your Asthma Clinic Nurse will be the same and very eager to help you!!

Well Guys, its Day 22 in our smokefree household and everything is going fantastic!
The sparkle has come back, even on a miserable wet day like today has been!!!
My new patches are brill, I was worried that as they are a lower strength that I would crave terribly, but I haven't:T.(touches wood........again).

I am here again to try for the 3rd time in as many months to really try and give up those blinking cigarettes....

The last time I tried I actually burst into tears before going to the shops and buying some - how sad is that??!!!

I saw that my local Asda is selling a Nintendo DS 'game - coach' thing, to help give up smoking - just wondering if anyone else has this or has used it and if it is any use? I nearly drove down there tonight to pick up a copy, but have decided to wait till morning when I have to take my son to a party which is right next to the store!

Obviously I shouldn't be smoking as I am pregnant, but however hard I try I just can't stop :( Really really would like to crack this before my new bubba is here, but no matter how much chewing gum/extra strong mints or sweets I have stocked up, its only a matter of days before I fail again.

Hi Happymumof3 and welcome to the thread. Well you are looking at a number one top failure at quitting smoking. I cannot count the number of times I have tried in the past.

You do have a big incentive obviously in that you are pregnant too. Congratulations. It is probably one of the toughest times to try to stop, as you are probably stressed and that can make smoking seem all the more precious.
It isn't of course, but that is how we see it.

Well all I can say is join us and do one day at a time. You can come on here, once, twice, three times or twenty daily to vent your anger, sadness or whatever comes up for you.

I think I am on about 14/15 weeks now and I feel more relaxed this time than any of my previous quits. Mainly I think because with the social stigma of smoking, plus my inbuilt shame about it, there really seems very little point in doing it.

Read the thread and jump in. Set a quit date and go for it. What have you got to lose?
Oh yeah, bad breath, wheezing lungs, stinking fingers, pongy clothes, yellow paintwork, standing in the freezing cold BUT most wonderful of all, in my view, losing the guilt about what you are doing to your body! And that pure lunged little bundle in your tum.

    All the best xxx
