Morning All,
Ive not posted for a few days as Ive been feeling down and really struggling and I am ashamed to say that I gave in and had a few ciggies lastnight when having a few drinks, which tasted absolutely Yuk by the way, I went to bed feeling even worse and telling myself how stupid I am, but Im still trying to carry on with my smokefree Journey.
I thought back to when I tried to quit last time and the way I have been feeling this week I also went through before and I had 'Just the one' ciggie when things got to bad and then felt a failure and gave up trying to quit completely. This time though even though Ive beaten myself up and feel really bad that I caved in I am telling myself that I have had a major wobble but I can continue with my NRT and that Just because Ive had a few I dont have to give up trying.
Ive been having a few problems with my patches, they wont stick properly and where they have been where they have stuck, they have been leaving a horrible itchy red raised mark that is wet when I take the patch off, Is anyone else having this problem??? Im at the NRT clinic tomorrow so Im going to mention this ( and also confess about lastnight) and ask if I can try something else aswell, How good are the inhalators???
Ive woken up feeling bad and kicking myself for giving in ( and for letting hubby win) but it has given me a massive boost in determination and Im actually feeling much better than I have done all week!!
I can do this and I will!!!!!!!!!Quit Day - 8th July 2009.0 -
Kezzae don't beat yourself up and just get back on the horse. Keep telling yourself "I will never give up trying to give up" and also think about the only other alternative which is to be a smoker until the day you die, or succumb to one of the illnesses it causes.
There has never been drug like nicotine which promises so much and delivers so little.
Think about it, it nags and nags us, virtually taking over our minds and bodies until we give in and then what do we get for our reward? A stinking, filthy chemical which really only gives us guilt and makes us smell.
You can do it. Also all the time you have not been smoking really does count towards your overall long term quit.
Any chance you can lay off the booze for a while? That is probably where you fall down as the two are highly connected in the mind.
Anyway, dont worry and keep posting and being honest with yourself. It's when you just give up and think "Oh I'm hopeless, I can never beat this thing", that you can get yourself lost.
By the way, have you ever tried this trick. Force yourself to smoke a fag in front of a mirror and see just how attractive it makes you look!!!

Welcome to the thread. Perhaps you should try the mirror trick with your last ciggie!!
You can do it. It does make you doubt yourself when you start again after a long spell of success. I quit once for three years and started when out on a blind date and having a drink, which seems to feature a lot in our failures.
Good luck and well done for your decision. Keep posting and get all the support you can from this thread.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Rossy well done for not giving in.I will be emailing you later - just tucking into some home made scones!
I know what you mean about these out of the blue what shall we call them - "strikes".
I recall not so long ago, walking home from work and I was angry (I forget what about) and the thought was going through my head "It's either smoke or stab someone" - I felt that crazy inside.
Fortunately I did neither and the moment passed as they do if we let them!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Kezzae - Trust me - the inhalators are fantastic - they certainly worked for me. I went from smoking my last ciggie of my usual 40 a day - to absolutely cold turkey only because of the inhalators - nothing else had ever worked and trust me I tried them all. That was 18 months ago and I never looked back. They are £20 for 40 odd - seems expensive but when compared with the usual £10 a day for cigarettes they are cheap at the price.
The biggest bonus is that they replace that comforting feeling of having a ciggie with a drink or after a meal. The patches start you off by reducing the craving and the inhalators take over that habit of having something in your hand. The old habits are worse than the nicotine. Within a few weeks the smell of a ciggie will put you right off which spurs you on no end. Go for it - it WILL work. Good luck.member # 12 of Skaters Club
