Hope you have a much better day today.:)

Keep posting all you quitters - together we can beat this thing. It is great to hear from longer time quitters too as it gives hope to those of us at the beginning of our journey.

Well done Rossy, both you and your husband. I am having the same problem with the eating thing. I have gained back around half a stone which I lost prior to quitting and it is getting me down, but I am using sweet things now as a reward.

I am looking for someone going through the same thing (weight and quitting) who would not mind exchanging e mails and becoming a support buddy. I cannot face joining another slimming club as I don't think they are the answer for me. Somehow I have to find the resource within myself to do it for myself as with the quitting nicotine, but I do need to feel the support of someone.

Anyone out there want to join me?

Keep it up all you quitters - have a lovely smoke free weekend.:)

I have had a weight problem since quitting. I figured that overall I have been doing my health a favour by quitting (last fag was February 9th 2009) but last week I treated myself to EA Sports Active for the Wii for £40 and I am loving it! I am terrible for motivation and always have been, I even get free gym membership and don't use it but this game is amazing. Its a lot of money if you are on a tight budget though.

I think ultimately you need to do whatever is required to get off the cigarettes, and if you put on some weight, so be it. You can get your weight under control much easier than the quitting so don't get too down about it. Have you tried chewing minty toothpicks?

Thanks VapourA. Unfortunately my addiction to sweet things over-rides any kind of commonsense!:o Everyday I say that's it - today I get to grips with my eating problem, but it seems to be exactly like I was about quitting the nicotine, putting it off.

I am aware I have exchanged one crutch for another but its having the ooomph to do anything about it I need. You are right though, it is a less harmful trade off for the nicotine and it is only 7-10 lbs. Trouble is I am small, so I look like a weeble.

Well this is day three for me. It's been the worst day so far, not so much for the cravings (which remain about the same) but because I've been very moody and antisocial but was forced to be with people for most of the day.

Since quitting I'm finding myself with a lot more time on my hands. I wish the withdrawal days would fly by but they're dragging out pretty slowly. I did buy Wii Fit as a distraction so I've been doing that but my abs are aching like mad today so I'll have to take it more slowly than I have been!

I saw something I wanna buy for £250 and while I was smoking that would have been out of the question without saving up for it. But, I think I can afford it with my ex-fag money and a little scrimping on other things. I'm really chuffed about that and it's helping to keep me motivated.

In previous quitting 'attempts' I would have said 'I can afford to buy xyz at the end of the month if I haven't smoked.' But I've realised that kind of mentality helped to keep me smoking because I'd have the money lying around, just waiting for me to spend it on fags instead of the coveted item I was supposed to 'save' for. This time I'm going to remove temptation by spending it on the thing I want first, because even if I do cave in (which won't happen!) and want to buy fags I won't be able to afford to :)

Kyssyn I think it's about day 3 they reckon the nicotine is really out of your system physically so that can only get better.

It is the associations that you link to having a ciggie that will continue for some time, but you sound really positive and determined. Wonderful too that you can look forward to getting something you really want.

It does get better - promise. Keep strong. :)

I was with a friend tonight and we sat outside while she had a ciggie. I have to say I didn't find the smell disgusting like some people say they do, but I knew that it was an illusion that there was anything positive about her being able to smoke.

This friend had an extremely serious operation last year and her condition was mainly caused by smoking! She has not been able to stop, even though she worries herself silly about what she is doing to herself. Powerful stuff that nicotine.

    Ooooh yes please!!

I stopped smoking on 3rd May, after many, many years and one previous attempt. I think I am coping OK now with the nicotine withdrawal, although some days are not so easy. I have just finished the patches, going from 21mg to 14mg and then 7mg, and am now just on the 2mg gum, but reducing that daily.

Like you, I too have put on weight which I really can't afford to do, I am only 5'3" so the 7-10lb (like you) really does make a big difference especially to my clothes, which are now quite tight, even if I can do them up! I have been trying really hard, especially this last week, no sweet things apart from a couple of 'Light' biccies. I also have a very sweet tooth . I don't really want to join a club, but would really welcome a support buddy.

I am going on holiday to the USA next Friday, and am really looking forward to it, even though the clothes don't fit. So, I will continue to try really hard this next week, but I can't imagine it will be very easy when I'm away. I am so determined to lose this extra weight and a little bit more, so will need all the help I can get, and I am also finding that it's harder to shift as you get older.

Please feel free to message me if you think we can help each other on this continuing journey. I look forward to hearing from you
  • Yep me again.
Still think I'm going to stop 'tomorrow'. Am always thankful tomorrow never comes. Tired of this energy sapping habit. I really, really, can't afford it. Kids hate it. Reading the thread again for inspiration.

I know I can do it.
