  • Well, I had to give in and visit the Dr today, having not got out of bed for 3 days, to be told I had bad flu, a chest infection and sinusitis!! So its no wonder have been feeling so bad....I still feel absolutely wiped out, and she said it could be the start of next week before I see any signs of getting better....

The one good thing about this is no cigs!! Yippee!! And the last time I was ill like this is what prompted me to give up last time, so fingers crossed, it will all go well!

Hope everyone is doing well and resisting all those nasty demons

    Hi All,

The deal my hubby and I made was that once all of the duty frees have run out then we are giving up smoking.

Hi goodeys and welcome - that is exactly what I did - waited until the duty frees run out and it just worked out really well that they run out NYE.

Well my 'good reason for giving up today' is when I got off the underground this morning the escalators weren't working, before giving up I would be dead by the time I got to the top - but now (even after 7 days) I walked all the way up and could even breathe when I got to the top :T I walked the rest of the way to work with a big grin on my face :D

The only strange thing I have noticed is I keep 'reaching' for my fags, I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not a smoker anymore, its not really a craving - definitely a habit !!

Hope everyone is having a positive day

  • Hello to everyone on this brill site. This is my first post and it is to make a pledge to stop smoking on Monday 12th January 2009.

My partner and I want to try for a baby in a few months so its really important to me to quit this time. I've used patches in the past and quit for 3 weeks but stupidly stopped using them after week 3 thinking I had cracked it. This time I will use the patches for the whole 12 weeks as recommended.

I'm using this week to prepare myself mentally and lookup useful things to help me crack the smoking trap.

Best of luck to everyone attempting to quit! :T

Well done to everyone staying off the dreaded weed so far.

All I can say tonight is aaaaaaaargh:eek: I think I could murger for a fag but I'm just going to head to bed with a good book instead.

The worst thing for me so far apart from being slightly tetchy and getting the odd craving is the hot flushes. OMG even folks at work were commenting when I would turn crimson and glow:o

I know I get hot flushest atm normally (TMI for the guys :rotfl:) but this is taking it into a league of it's own.

I wonder if this is a side effect of non smoking Hmmmmm..will need to research that one.

Tomorrow will be another no smoking day :j

Hi Kizzyanne - welcome to the thread - Sue_UU will be along soon and she has a brilliant PM which is very motivating and has lots of tips. I have found it really helps me to know there are people going through the same physical and emotional feelings as me and I feel that I have a few virtual 'quit buddies' who I wouldn't wanna let down.

Welcome again and good luck for Monday - let Mr nic have this last weekend and then kick his butt - and when the little one(s) come along you won't have time to smoke :D

    Good luck again

Haven't had a fag for one whole week now and really pleased. Haven't had the urge neither and the smell of my OH's smoke is turning me sick (yuk!). _pale_ Good luck to everyone.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

:T I know what you mean, now I can actually smell people who smoke and find it smells nasty, I can't stand the smell now.

I don't know what it is but there is something about the 3 weeks, on my previous attempts to quit I use to quit for 3 weeks then think, I can do this, I'll have one more fag and prove I can do it, what happen's? I start smoking again, and kept going through that process. Something about the day after the 3rd week lol!

A very good morning to everyone! :D

Excellent Mel, though to be honest, short of kicking her out in the bitter cold, I sort of guessed your mum would still be smoking indoors. Still, you're coping with it in a very sensible way by ordering a purifier, anything that helps is well worth doing! One things for sure, whereas most of us would keep right away from anyone smoking (which is virtually impossible to do) you're certainly learning how to cope with being near it straight away and it may well help you very, very much! Well done with the wine gums and weak tea - again - anything that helps do it!!! PS. Have you still been taking the water, plenty of it to help through the cravings? Orange juice, clementines and Ice Pops too, they'll soon help with the cravings ...though they mightn't do a lot for the flushes!!! ;)

Welcome to the thread goodeys!! It's always so good to welcome new quitters and when someone can say "I don't actually enjoy smoking anymore" it's music to our ears and they're usually just right to quit and stay that way! I agree with daleigha go on and ask about the prescriptions, there's nothing to lose! I do so hope you can both give it up completely as you'll save yourselves so much money and regain your health instead of putting yourselves in more danger from the blessed things!! How about saving the money you'd normally have spent, it acts as a great pat on the back. Talk to us and let us know how you're getting on, even if you get in a foul mood (most unlikely) let us know, it'll do you good whilst typing as well as getting it off your chest, and we have some amazing folk here at the moment who'll help and support you every step of the way! All the very best for Friday! :j

Well done again Liberty, you have such a great attitude, and don't forget, plenty of exercise (indoors if you can't get out) and fresh air will aid the sleeping problems. You're right you CAN ALL do it!!! :j

For someone who feels quite rough you're certainly determined to keep yourself really upbeat daleigha, good for you!!! :j Bless your hubby, how sweet of him to care so much. "theres not much chance of me putting on weight this week, but im sure I'll probably make up for it when I get better haha!!" That's NOT the way to look on it, even if you were having a bit of a giggle - remember you do NOT want to waddle down the aisle, we won't allow it!!! Grrrr! Seriously daleigha, I do hope you're soon feeling so much better - me too with this blessed infection as all I seem to do is sleep.

Oh nikzGfx - thank Heavens you weren't meaning a 100 a day, poor graeme could scarcely believe his eyes, me either!! Try hard not to even focus on that 3rd week this time, instead look ahead to that mighty 4th - the month!!! We'll all be here with you to help ....drag you through it as you're not going back, again!!!;)

Poor you Blueisthecolour, no wonder you felt so rough! Do take good care of yourself and keep warm!!! I'm pleased you can see the positive side of it all at least - a good start to quitting!!! I do hope you're soon feeling so much better, drink plenty to help you through!

Hi Jay_Jay. Going up steps really is a great reason to have quit, oh how we've all suffered as a result of (you said it right) "a habit"! "'reaching' for your fags" shouldn't last too much longer. I wonder what tomorrow's reason will be!

Hi Kizzyanne and a warm welcome to the thread and to MSE! I'm so pleased your trying to quit before your little one is tried for. You have something so very, very precious to quit for and I'm sure that in time you'll be delighted that you've quit, for your baby, to save yourselves money and to give you a healthy life back again and that is the greatest gift you can give yourself - the gift of life!! Come on the thread as often as you can and let us know how you're getting on, even if you get in a foul mood (most unlikely:rolleyes:) let us know, it'll do you good whilst typing as well as getting it off your chest, and we have some amazing folk here at the moment who'll advise and support you every step of the way! For now 3 great allies to remember, water, orange juice and especially clementines or oranges and Ice Pops! More than 3 but heck who's counting!

Brilliant news TurnaroundSue, you've done so very, very well!!! :TThanks so much for letting us know now look ahead to each new day and ...all being well to that 2nd week. The very best of luck Sue!!!

Fantastic news queen vi!!! I'm thrilled to bits that you had such a good night and bless your hubby for letting you sleep on. I'm sure you're right about the sniffles as so many folk say the same thing - including me when I quit ...and no - it doesn't sound stupid, quite the reverse as it's so natural. Try hard to think of something to do when watching telly, how about plasticine or something that you can actually mold to a shape or just 'play' with. Have some pens close by to 'play' with too, anything like it. When I first quit I had (of all things) an ear plug (rubbery, foamy things) and I fiddled around with that for ages. How about a pad and pen to doodle on, or a crossword to half focus on even if your mind's on the telly. Have a look around the house and see what attracts you most. Grabbing hubby's allowed!!! :D Good luck!
Hi playa1406 and very well done indeed on 11 days!!:T Come on here and chat to us about the good and bad days it really does help and everyone here is so very supportive. All the very best in quitting for good!

Another new morning everyone and another step closer to that splendid goal. Keep reaching out for it knowing that it's such a wonderful place to get to. Make all your achievements now count for huge success further along the track! ....and YES, you CAN all do it!!!
