Thanks 115k, for me it's not the physical after effects, its the actual dependence that worries me.
After a half I'm fine, relaxed even, but then my mind turns inward and as others have said the emotional anxiety kicks in. Just makes me miserable, why pay for the privilege ? Thats what I don't understand...

Grey Pilgrim, you have done so well and you should be very proud, it is a blip don't beat yourself up.

Sunshine, lollypops and rainbows :j :j . I feel a lot better now - except for feeling bad about such negative postings earlier. I had a very stressful Saturday with some family issues, felt like we made some headway in terms of resolving them, and it felt great to celebrate with a couple beers.

Didn't sleep well saturday night, had a long drive on Sunday morning and for the rest of sunday evening I brooded on the events of the previous day (the family issues and the arguments).

I think it was the combination of stress, alcohol and tiredeness that suddenly brought on the anxiety feelings again and for a couple of hours my head was spinning. Felt like I was either going to be sick, or choke, or both and had to go into a quiet room and ride out the storm. I really thought I was going mad. I feel like I've only started to relax now.

This needs to be an upbeat place so I'm sorry for bringing everyone down with negative postings - it won't happen again. I feel much more upbeat about stuff now. Its as you said - a blip. Up till that point I'd gone 26 days without beer (the longest of my adult life) and I should be proud of myself and be chomping at the bit to do even better this time.

If I can take anything positive away from this 'blip', it's that my relationship with alcohol is definately over. It's no good to fool myself into thinking the odd binge is ok now and again. I simply cannot handle the after effects anymore and I don't want to drink again.

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm going to go to the gym and sweat whatever alcohol is left in my system away.

  • Can you put me down for 11/12. Had my 2nd weigh in today and have lost 6lbs. A huge incentive amongst others to stay AF.

  • Think this is a great thread with a lot of support.

I am a bottle of wine a night drinker , I have been for four years. Always convinced myself that I wasnt addicted and that it was just a little treat for myself.

Then I decided to give up and realised that I couldnt. The main problem I had when I went a night without drinking wine was a terrible sleep, it felt like my heart was racing and I had almost a sense of 'dread'. Is this normal ??

Now I have decided to quit once and for all but I keep worrying that I am going to keep having sleepless nights.

Tonight will be my first night but I am already trying to tell myself that I will start properly tomorrow.

Well I hope you won't feel that bad again, but if you do (& to anyone else who's down in the dumps) don't worry about bringing us down - we're old enough & ugly enough (speaking for myself, obviously) to cope with it, & for me that's exactly the times I need everyone on here the most. It would all be a lot easier if we felt on top of the world all the time.

That's why my posts are always so miserable ;) .

I've just had a huge meal of chilli (made with quorn GP but don't let that make you feel bad) so don't want to go near any scales tomorrow. Well done PBT! And Lurkio with the weight loss. (Sorry GP that was mean - I had a ham sandwich for lunch :D )

    I'll match Fedupski - 7/12 AFDs.

This is EXACTLY what I am talking about SleepBetter. It came from nowhere. A cross between nervous excitement (but in a bad way), anxiety, butterflies, and the feeling that the sky was going to come crashing down and everything was going to fail and the worst outcomes were going to happen. It was the most horrible feeling in the world, mostly because even though I was telling myself "there is nothing to worry about", it refused to go away.

In a really selfish way it helps to know that someone else has experienced it, because it least it means I'm not going mad...which was precisely how it felt at the time...

Jees, that sounds really selfish....as if I'm saying "I'm glad you had a panic attack" ;)

Don't worry..I met my missus for lunch in KFC. Didn't feel hungry but nabbed a couple of bits her popcorn chicken.

Back on the veggie wagon now though. We also have fake mince chilli bubbling away downstairs...

Hi to the newbies, I was drinking a bottle of wine a night sleepbetter, and I found it really hard to stop at first, yes I had a few bad nights sleep, but by the 3rd night I was that tired I slept like a log!
I also kept putting off my start date, thats why I joined this challenge to give me the kick up the bum that I needed!.
Try and keep as busy as you can, clean the oven anything that you wouldn't normally do, go for a walk and tire yourself out, have a hot milk and then go to bed. Try to relax, don't worry about sleeping, at least you are resting.
I've said earlier in this thread the Paul McKenna CD really helped me to realx at night, its a hypnosis cd, but has a deep relaxation part and I ALWAYS nod off during it. Goodluck x
