Whatever happens now budgetbabe (and everyone else who has had an AFD) you haven't failed, even if you drink today/tomorrow, you have made a start at a change. My goal is not to be alcohol free, its to drink sensibly and only at the weekend, this month off drinking is to prove to myself that I can, and to change my bad habit, which I have made a good start at already (and so have you!) be proud of what you have done (keep the faith x)

:hello: Evenin' all :D and Miamoo you're not on your own

I was dying to open a bottle of wine in the fidge to have a few glasses with my evening meal. It was the thought of all you lot on here that stopped me because I really want to reach my AF target and not open a bottle of wine when I feel fedup/ off

So many thanks for all the posts it helps to have a reason to stop and virtual support on here.

Why am I finding this difficult when I don't usually drink everyday? I think I drink more often than I thought I did.....goes back to what I said yesterday as soon as I say I'm not, I want to. Had a very strong craving tonight but got throught it by clicking my fingers (to the amusement of the dog!) and drinking a glass or 2 of water fairly quickly. I counted 6 bottles of wine in the cupboard and 8 in the shed. Need to take those 2 out of the fridge - a bit too tempting at the moment.

Hope everyone else is ok and coping well:D

Chalk another one up for me Lurkio - 5/7.

Really fancied a glass of wine earlier but had a cup of low fat hot chocolate instead (not the same at all but it filled a need!).
  • No wine for me tonight. I know if i had it some though it would be gone so well done you resisting the temptaion of booze in the house.

I have still only managed 3/7 this week but I'm quite pleased with myself considering it's been so dark and cold and depressing at this time of year.

(I am a veggie too and I think it is definitely more healthy and cheaper.)

I'm not sure I agree with the nicotine patch theory of quitting, I think your body needs to detox the harmful element not to keep adding more of it to your system but that's just my opinion. I gave up smoking cold turkey last year but I still get cravings sometimes.

I just quickly wanted to check this thread before I turned off the computer tonight and I have to say graemecarter that not everyone on this thread is an alcoholic and has to therefore completely abstain so cutting back on alcohol should be applauded too in my book.
I know it is cold and depressing at this time of year and I'm just saying that some people find that they drink or eat too much at this time of year like animals in hibernation mode I always think.

Hope you guys are all okay anyway.:A

  • Blimey, won't make that mistake again...been away from the thread since Sunday and its taken a long time to catch up - you guys are prolific:rotfl:

Lurkio- I am pleased to be able to improve your statistics:D - 7/7 for me :j

I am delighted with this result, but now have a dilemma  Tomorrow is my birthday and am having a takeaway with the GLW but am tempted to reward myself with a couple of glasses of wine. I originally set a target of 25/31 to allow for this and for a night out earlier in the month (where i elected to drive and stayed AF), and for a few more slips along the way.

I am confident that if I do now have a drink it will only be a couple rather than what would have happened before Lurkio's AFJ challenge - probably a bottle and a half. This is good. I think something has clicked mentally for me - as was suggested in an earlier post - which means I am well on the way to no longer needing the comfort blanket that alcohol was becoming for me.

However if I do have that drink I won't do a full AFJ which I feel may now be achievable.

    What do you reckon?
