So pat away (go for reachable parts for now:D )
I'd agree. The decision to start AFJ (and perhaps Alcohol Free Life) was mine, and it's my own decision to carry on, but at the same time it's good havnig the support of the thread, and the routine of updating Lurkio's thread each morning.
It's my birthday on the 21st January (no big presents, please...), and on tuesday night I met a mate and made big plans to go out and have a few beers at the end of the month as a celebration, both of my birthday and of a month of AF-ness. I've rethought this because it would be a pretty stupid thing to do.
I started this AF journey because I had a REALLY bad couple of days with anxiety and panicky feelings after a serious drinking binge, and promised myself that those feelings weren't worth it. Now that the memory of those feelings are starting to fade slightly, there's a little voice in me saying "ahhhh, come on - it wasn't that bad was it? Have a beer! You deserve it!"
This is one of the few things in my life that I've stuck at. I know it's early days but then you have to start somewhere and it seems really daft to celebrate staying of the beer....by having a beer.0 -

I know what you mean, though. If I was being completely honest with myself, my figures would probably be on the conservative side........ (i.e. a 'good' week)Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

GP i agree, don't celebrate by having a beer. Do something you have always wanted to do, but never got around to. For me its my slimming body wrap, Im booking myself in at the end of the month, and I can't wait!
Next on my list is a hair cut at Tony and Guy (Expensive but only a couple of weeks drinking money!!) I am going to look fantastic lol!!!£100 - £10,0000 -

You sound like me GP and you summed it up in your last sentence, when would you ever celebrate change by doing the thing you want to change?
It's mad how we think we must drink to celebrate or have a good time, it's ingrained in so many of us, including me.
Then the mind kicks in saying 'go on go on it's ok, what's to worry about?'
We need to be strong and remember at times like this, why did we want to change in the first place to either control or stop?
All this ingrained behaviour is taking some changing, yet stopping smoking I stopped cold turkey and it was ok. My decision must have been stronger to stop as reducing/controlling alcohol is a much more shaky one.
Still we're all hanging in there with our different reasons and doing well, big hugs to all who are tempted at the different times coming up :Afinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

hi guys, happy birthday to you mr rugby coach
lurky please update me. went for dinner last night (sipped diet coke) then went to see australia - so AF for me! i cant believe it, my little girl goes to her dads on a wednesday and i always have one glass of wine to reward myself.
i'll be honest i dont want to cut it from my life forever i just want to stop the drinking at home. i did it so successfully then it crept in again. i want to shut it out of home for good this time. i know some people think its all or nothing and maybe i am kidding myself but i find i feel quite "controlled" when i am out, its when i drink on my own that the problems start. ifykwim.
i am rewarding myself on saturday with a facial, big treat, cant wait. and i ve made a deal with myself to stay AF for definate till then!
have a great day xxxx:eek:
