I think what GC is trying to say is like I just said in my previous post. If you want to cut down and give it a go but find you can't or find it very difficult then you DO have a problem that needs to be addressed. The general term is an alcoholic, you could say problem drinker, whatever you say it comes down to the same thing, you are being controlled by alcohol, i.e. you have to change your thought patterns and actions drastically to NOT drink.
I think that's what he was saying anyway

Admitting you are an alcoholic is very hard, and certainly very humbling. It is the start of the road to recovery. I didn't want to admit it to anyone, especially myself.
Though my theory is if you cannot stop drinking for a month or two, then alcohol obviously plays a much bigger part in your life than you choose to admit to, and you're an alcoholic.
I can completely see what graemecarter is saying but I don't think that everyone who posts on this thread is an alcoholic. I have known people who are alcoholics and they have not touched a drop for months but the fact that they are still alcoholics never changes and they always recognise themselves as alcoholics. So I would disagree with the theory about not being able to stop drinking for a month meaning you are an alcoholic as it is very simplistic and it sounds very judgemental as well.
I think people who have delved deeply into an aspect of their personality often want to see others in the same light and so see addictions in others. It's quite common I think because you learn to notice your own behaviour and then you tend to analyse other's behaviour also.
I am not drinking at all today so that will be 4/8 for me.:jHOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

I am an Alcoholic & I'm trying the route of cutting down first
I'm still not convinced that I WANT to give up completely. I would be very happy with a safe amount that I could afford.Embrace your inner Hillbilly
