Sorry you have been so poorly BB but very glad you are feeling better ;)

I am a mod on another forum and I have suggested to some of the other mods there we do a 'lose half a stone in May' challenge :D As you know from my sig. I have already lost 5 stone but still have a bit to go so had already set myself this extra challenge for May.

Maybe some of the others on this thread who are also wanting to lose weight might like to give it a go?? For me, it is all about changing my lifestyle for an all round healthier one and cutting down on alcohol and shifting more weight is my big joint challenge at the moment but I need to kick start my weight loss again.

So, BB, great idea of yours :D I will lose half a stone in May as well as continuing to cut down on the drinking :j

I think thats a great idea. I'd love to lose half a stone! i've put on that much recently through drink.
  • OK - BB - first off eek to feeling so ill and great to hear you are slowly recovering.

I think your ideas are great - in amongst the 'not drinking' is that scary - OK now my head isnt switched off every night - what on earth do I do with myself?

So I think its great to challenge us a bit. I have given up going to yoga (infact any kind of exercise) because of my work - as I set my own hours essentially i just have that 'oh I have got so much to do feeling'. 24/7 or that ok I will do it later feeling 24/7 doh!

If we go ahead I will ask my brother if he can help me out by baby sitting for me (although its hardly baby sitting) and see if I can go back to yoga a couple nights a week - it makes my head (or down/depression) so much better and me so much more bendy. :)

I can of course champion recycling - cos everything I own is recycled :) as a self confessed 'good life' nutcase - I embrace all things sustainable.

Oh BTW - anyone noticed how much lighter their recycling box is these days ??????

    Waves to Budgie
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
    :money:Sleeves up folks.:money:

    Budgie - some great ideas.

While they are all admirable, I don't think the focus (on this thread at least) should be on anything else except alcohol.
It is very hard to give up/cut down. I recommend people don't take on too much at once. Stop boozing and the weight will fall off, so that's a good incentive. :T The majority of posters don't hit their targets, and the ones that do post the most are doing the best on average. That means there are loads of non-regular posters who are not having a great deal of success. It just goes to show what a powerful grip alcohol has over so many of us, and that many great, lovely, kind people do suffer from alcoholism.
I also (probably wrongly) assume that if one thing falls down, then the F**K IT moment kicks in with the other things too. So trying to lose weight and stop boozing, if you fall off the weight wagon, you could find it easier to fall off the AF wagon too.

This is just my theory on it - pls tell me to shut up if I am spouting gibberish. I don't trust my own thinking (the problems it has got me into), so I don't know if you guys should either.

    Hi Grahame.

Thankyou as always for your comments, I understand completely what you are saying. For me rightly or wrongly I am just trying to to think of a way to motivate our dear members.

Many as we know are struggling and have often commented that being on here makes them constantly think of alcohol.

My thinking behind the being a better me in May was that if the focus is not solely on alcohol and members do in some small way make a change here and there that they may feel more positive about themselves and adopt more of I can do this attitude

It is very hard trying to convey things correctly I feel. That is why I have asked for feedback? I just wanted to build the momentum a little but I agree that it is an alcohol thread. So whatever members want to do is fine by me?

So hugs my friend and take care of yourself, btw well done on the smoking front :D its really great news that you are doing so well :D

  • Budgie Welcome back hun you were missed.

Well you know what I think about your idea :D:D:j:j:T:T but having a bit of extra time to decide what my challenge is hasn't really helped so needs a bit more focused thought for me. I have been on a weight loss plan for a few weeks now so that wouldn't really be an extra challenge for me so I want to think of something specially for May to go alongside my cutting down.

The question you posed is what I need to really think about - What would make a better me?? Lots of things really so I just need to think of one that fits in well with a month.

fay know what you mean about the recycling. My bin used to be full of 3 for 10 bottles but I would imagine the bin men are now pleased to find it mostly full of plastic water bottles:o:o

eselt agree with what you say about kudzu whilst I know everyone is being enthusiastic about it and helpful we do sometimes seem to cross the line and give advice. When I was scoring in Feb it was mentioned to me so it is been watched. Please dont lets lose this thread its so much of a lifeline to us all. I reckon if we just talk about our own experience with it thats great but if people are asking questions and we answer them then it may be seen to be advice I guess:confused:

15 please HS and I will go and ponder on May some more:D

I agree NTC, I can't personally see the harm in commenting on our own usage of kudzu, but perhaps if anyone has any general queries they must be encouraged to ask their GP/pharmacist or even Google their query rather than us give an answer. Do you think this will be acceptable?

Thanks for flagging it again eselt ;)

Nice to see you back Budgie and glad to hear you are better.

GC, I do see your point about the thread being focused on alcohol but I also like the idea of adding a little extra something alongside - I think it would help me in the opposite way of an 'oh F it momen' in that if I struggled to be AF one day I would be able to compensate by saying yes, but at least I've done XYZ and therefore feel good still (and vice verse) IYSWIM. Then I'm far more likely to say 'start afresh and more determined tomorrow.

Having something else alongside may also give 'hesitant' posters something to join in with and thus feel more part of the thread rather than only being able to post "well, another drinking day :-(" or "still not had an AFD".

Anyway, I'm easy either way but would definately benefit from a little more motivation in several areas of my life!

oh BTW, Another AFD for me please HS, upto 13 now I think.
