    Good morning everyone.:hello:

Different Corner....this is so spooky......as I woke up this morning I was thinking about this thread and you suddenly popped into my mind.I thought it must nearly be time for your very sad anniversary and that you hadn't been around for a while.I said a little prayer hoping that you were ok.and lo and behold...you have posted....Good luck and Keep strong.....

Bismarck...Love the poem....am going to print it off and put it in some frames for my DD's...will have to change the words a little but I think it is so true....just wish I had been told it years ago......Thanks.

Well done to everyone else cutting down/giving up.
    See you later
    Love Mollypollyxxxx

  • Thanks Mollypolly, your words and thoughts touched me and are really appreciated. I'm a believer in karma and the like have some uninvestigated interest in spiritual things, so that is very weird (in a good way.)
I'm doing okay, having some really positive moments recently. Going to stop fighting with myself (inner demons that make me procrasinate and then it's easy to think oh s*d it, have a beer.) Starting at the top of the mountain instead of the bottom.

This time next year I would like to be where you are on the alcohol front. It would be so much nicer being me than than some half cut 40 something slouched on the sofa clutching a glass.

Eselt, you too are an inspiration, your words to your friend are honest but so much more caring than a 'there-there'.

    Have a good day all.

I can see what GC is trying to say, but I also agree with everyone else too and I like BB's idea for May.

    Yep...me too...find me a fence & I'll sit on it :D

I totally agree with GC about the focus here being solely on alcohol, esp as one of the, er, less successful posters on here.

ON THE OTHER HAND.....I sometimes think that subscribing to this thread makes me think about booze more than I would otherwise....I'm planning little messages in my head for when I can get online (this one's not planned...can you tell?); I find I'm constantly storing anecdotes etc etc during the day for on here, & if I wasn't on here I might not be so AWARE of alch all the time. But ON THE OTHER HAND (3 hands and counting so far) I value the support on here so much.

I also think that my drinking, although it has many many causal strands, is largely down to the low self-esteem issue which has been touched on by others before, which in turn is almost entirely due to there being 20lbs more of me than there should be.

So (anyone still awake?) my final conclusion is .......... am happy to go with Budgie's idea....

    I'll go with the flow!

fay and fluffy at targets - marvellous stuff! Let's see how many more can get there or nearly, or there-or-there-abouts. Or whatever you can manage. Good luck!!

Re May was thinking of abstaining from the challenge and going it alone without you lot. Went out for lunch with friends yesterday and didn't have a glass of wine because I don't have any 'spare' days and I'm damn well going to reach my target and I wondered why I was doing this to myself. I could happily have just had 1 glass and then stopped. So perhaps now it's time to test myself as a cutter downer out in the real world. ;). Or perhaps i'll just set a much lower target . I may well change my mind before Friday tho', it's just how I'm feeling today.

I like Budget Babe's idea too. I think having a manageable goal can raise your self-esteem and I do think people that drink do often suffer from low self worth (well I do anyway.) The cycle of drinking and then stopping for a while and then usually starting again makes me feel quite "weak" as a person sometimes. I know for a fact that I can't make my target this month.

Hope you guys are okay anyway.:A

    Hi all

Lots of interestng stuff on here today

I agree with so many of you

I printed out Bis's poem - the thing about it that struck me the most was - I don't like the person in the glass and it got me to thinking - why would I want to please that person - I dont like them (me).

That bit needs to change - cos its right enough - because at the end of the day I am not only cheating myself I am cheating those around me too.

Anyway onwards and upwards - 20 for me when the scores go on the doors

Hoping to do 3 more AFD's this month - but will see.

Small steps. woo hoo I got a jumping man - :)

I think if people CAN cut down and most importantly, STAY cut down, then that is great. If having other challenges (like losing weight) help achieve that, then by all means do it.

I know (just for me) I tried cutting down for 15 years or so. It didn't work for me. There would be too many excuses, too many of my rules I set were broken.

The consensus seems to be that having another challenge is welcome, so by all means add it in.

For those that say that posting encourages to think about alcohol, I agree it does. But I think I think about posting when I think about alcohol/escape/etc
The obsession I have with alcohol leads me to post.
If this thread makes you think about not drinking, then great.

Hmmmm, know just what you mean about not liking the person in the mirror but I go the other way & get defiant...as in "sod it I might as well make a really bad job of it where's the corkscrew?". I actively avoid mirrors most of the time (which often leads to spending the entire day with a biro mark down my face).

And as to the cheating thing...we all do it don't we? Every time I "cheat" on a diet...who else cares? Only one person is losing out.....

HS I would be very sorry to see you go but can see your point of view.....but even if you don't join in the May challenge please don't be a stranger.

HS, I see your reasoning and of course you would always be on our support list even if not following the challenge - just don't be a stranger.

A lot of people are talking about losing weight/improving their self image/confidence or learning to love themselves.
I'm wondering how we can do that together to help boost our collective confidence? Maybe it IS just as simple as setting a goal and then encouraging each other to reach that goal?

FluffyBishop, I too am trying to lose weight and often it is that which stops me drinking rather than the desire to be teetotal - I have to get into a bikini in June and want to not scare the children.
