Good evening and well done to you all.:j :j

Welcome to the newbies and good luck for cutting down/giving up in April.

Tomorrow is DH birthday ,wedding anniversary Thursday and my birthday Friday.....It was this time last year that I decided enough was enough.!!!:o

We are off to Anglelsey for a few days but will be back Sunday.....although I think this site is closed then??????How can we manage a whole weekend without MSE.

Thanks to NTC for keeping the March scores and also to Happyshopper for volunteering for April.

Well done on setting your targets everyone.
And yes Jo...I will be back for my one year celebration on YOUR birthday.;)

Have a lovely rest of week and weekend.

  • Morning all!
JO1971 thank you for the encouragement and advice. I woke at 5.45, before the alarm:j and am actually looking forward to getting up and eating breakfast!
I can't decide whether to go for the alcohol-free house or the security-blanket bottle in the cupboard. Willpower has never been by strong point (witness, bitten nails:rotfl: ) but have a feeling I favour the security blanket option. Will let you know
    Have a good day peeps

    Morning all,

MP, prob missed you now, but have a safe journey and a lovely time :)

Lillibet Dripping (can I shorten that to LD??), glad you are up and raring to go this morning, even though you aged me in my sleep by getting my user ID wrong lol!!

I snoozed the alarm 3 times this morning, but am still up, clothes ready for me and the kids, packed lunches sorted and about to get dressed and leave TEN WHOLE MINUTES earlier than usual :j :j :j

I opened my eyes this morning and had to think to myself whether I'd drunk last night or not because I honestly couldn't remember, brain cells have been lost big time! Within a couple of seconds I remembered I was AF and there is no reason for me to feel like carp this morning and the relief was immense....still feel like I've been hit like a bus though

Oh damn....I've only got an extra 5 minutes now!!!

    xx

115K, well done for putting the booze back, that's far more than I'd be able to do if I was already in the aisle!!

    *sidles in sheepishly*

I actually had 5 bottles of beer last night that my OH bought me. It was after 12 o'clock might I add so it was technically today's alcohol not yesterday. I am such a kid!

Anyway, I have the hangover from hell today and it is totally my own fault.

So today is not a AF day and this is not an April Fools joke.:p

    :hello: to any new people.

    Hope you are all okay.:A

I think having the bottle there is a false god - your brain is telling you 'you can drink if you really want to'

To my mind, it could be better not to keep booze in the house.
We all have weak moments, and ready to access to alcohol may see you take a drink.
If the drink wasn't there, you may decide to go to the shops, but there is a strong likelihood that you won't be bothered, and thus remain AF.
The cravings may only last minutes, and the difference between you picking up and drink and remaining AF could be that bottle you keep in the house.

If you get so anxious about not having alcohol in the very near vicinity, then that is a indicator that the need for alcohol is strong, so a period of abstinence will be a good thing.

AA is a great institution if it works for u. My problem with AA is they say the problem is you and not the booze. How can that be when all my problems come from drinking - my problems don't come from not drinking!! If it works for you fine - it will never work for me as there are too many holes in the logic. Don't even get me started on the cod psychology and letting my supposed recovery be put in the hands of someone who is nowhere near qualified to comment on my own situation. I realise this post will get the back up of a few people - what can I say -its what I believe!!

It obviously didn't work for you.
Can I ask how long you attended for?
