"Theres a lady whos sure
All that glitters is gold
And shes buying a crateload of vimto."
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How evrything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
Was going to change it to something clever but I couldn't.
Had another of those moments this afternoon...the ones where I felt curiously at peace...the bit where I felt so much more reassured in what I was doing and in the future. Sorting it completely will take years but then again, accepting less than perfction is something I've had to learn. I think I used to drink when I couldn't get my own way or things weren't "just so"...kind of a coping mechanism. Now....I am trying to look at everything that would scare me and take the fear out of it.....Fear was one of my biggest triggers...and yet I was the one who generated the fear more often than not or made a situation worse through panic...talk about self-induced problems....dumb really...
I never really thought this way but I was trying to figure out what alcohol had actually given me that wasn't already really there in the first place. Then I looked at what it had coast me and what it was going to continue to cost me. And it really was alarming.....
For anyone wavering - it really does get better....and as for turning down drinks....it becomes second nature.
take care everyone...For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -

good for you mari...once you know what the triggers are you can start building defences....I used to be dreadful for getting some on the way home. Never usually got more than one day's worth at a time because most of the time I really wanted to stop and "today" was going to be the last time...lost track of the number of times I thought that.
so is that you staying up now, fayjmck? gonna be a long day...
take care everyone. For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Excellent efforts by all those concerned. :j
When people have got a little bit of sobriety behind them, they may want to look at WHY they turn to alcohol. Changing habits etc is all well and good, but the underlying issues will still remain. If you want there to be no desire to drink, then we must sort out the stuff deep in the psyche/soul.
Avoiding alcohol forever will get tiring, and probably send you mad!
Still, great job in cutting down your intakes. It is a Stirling effort. :snow_laug0 -

That's a very good idea Mari. :T This will start to become more normal to you as time goes on and your confidence improves. Then it's coping with your friends who all say go on, why don't you have one......?
Anyway, I cannot believe the support that is available on this thread, the time you all take for everyone to make sure they are ok and reinforce the changes we are all making each day.:A
I counted up 14 bottles of wine, a bottle of whiskey and a bottle and a half of rum. That should see me through the next 12+ months in a controlled way of drinking! :rotfl: Oh dear, that will take some willpower!!!!
The thought of my liver improving after a month off drinking really cheered me up and I think I might give this a go to help it repair! Plus when I've not drunk for a month before it has really changed my attitude towards drinking, (hopefully more longterm this time like!)
Take care everyone, let's all get through another day to mark off all of these totals!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

"Well, week 5 of no alcohol and I see a different person in the mirror. My eyes no longer look dull and vacant, they actually have a little sparkle and my skin doesn't look like uncooked pastry anymore. I feel that I have won a battle but not yet the war. Hope everyone else is at the point they want to be, I never want to be that person I was, I have been tempted but I just think back to what I had become. The sun is shining at the moment and I feel good and want to continue to have the sun in my life."
