Hi all- just passing through. Good luck with the changes Miss Piggy, hope they help. Well done FUAS for turning your drinking life around, and thanks to budget babe for the positive encouragement. Hi to everyone else...looks like March is going to be our most successful group effort so far..come on Team AF, only a few more days to go, hold your nerve everybody.

Had my last session with the alcohol counsellor yesterday, and asked what she thought of Kudzu- she said she finds a lot of her patients report how much it helps, and said some of her patients found Kudzu more effective than campral etc. She said if you team up Kudzu with a good quality Vit B complex the brain fog clears and the cravings seem to reduce. Anyway, she discharged me as all my test results are still good, and apart from a hepititis booster jab I'm free to go...felt a bit weird and I panicked a bit but then I remembered I've still got this thread for inspiration and support so I'm sort of confident, but with constant vigilence.

Hope everyone is OK today- some of you have been a bit quiet? Whats up?
    Catch you later.
  • Hey Eselt - alot of great information there - thanks so much for asking a professional about it.

Hope you aren't feeling so paniced now! Well done on being discharged - bound to feel abit scary.

NTC I think I am on 19 if AF today but it might be eighteen, need to get my fingers and toes out to check - will do that later.

Went on a course for a couple days now left feeling confused and confuddled about whether or not I WANT to carry on with my current position - I feel so far behind - rather than have a drink on the plane I refused one (even a wee bottle wine for later) and then rather than go get a bottle of wine from the supermarket I went to bed early - same effect crashed out but with no alcohol.

Maybe my stress management should be sleep first - not wine first then sleep - the minute I decide OK up to bed I feel a bit defeated but secretly a bit proud.

Well done on being discharged eselt :T :T
Really interesting too to hear what the counsellor says about Kudzu - I am really glad you asked :D

I already do take Vit B complex, and also milk thistle :D In fact I positively rattle :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Have to say it is getting easier and easier - though a bit of stress the other night almost had me reaching for the wine, but somehow I managed to resist. Pre Kudzu I know I would have given in

I am fretting about April already  I have 2 weeks off work and we are going away for 1 week and will be eating out every night. Now I know I can 'just say no' but I will be on holiday and eating in some nice places some of the time. Would it be very naughty of me to have a couple of glases of wine every night whilst on holiday. I am a cutter downer not outer and I think holidays, birthdays etc are allowable. What do you all think?
Have a good day everyone :D

115K good to see you posting, hows things with you?

I'm alright thanks NTC. But I realised if I want to make my target then I have to be AF everyday from today until the end of March. Maybe I need a kick up the bum to remind me anyway. I will give it a go.

Eselt - I didn't realise that you had to have a hepititis jab. That's good that you are so healthy now though.:j

I do take a B-Complex everyday anyway as it helps with my depression. I take milk thistle when I remember, I should probably take it today thinking about it.;)

  • Me again:rolleyes:

Eselt - what did she mean by "a good quality vitamin B" aren't they all the same:confused:
There is a Holland and Barrett across the road from here, I thought I might go over and check out their Kudzu - probably won't be able to today or tomorrow as a lunch break is looking difficult, hope to have a bit of time on Friday

FluffyBish - sorry I can't advise you on what to do on holiday. Perhaps you could take the holiday into consideration when setting your target for April.
You may find that after 2 or 3 nights on the bottle you may want a rest for a day or two - holiday or no holiday. Alternatively, what about drinking every other day and then spending the money you would have spent on drink on something else? - upgrade your starter or pudding (or both) or perhaps invest a couple of booze free days into a treat e.g. Spa Day.

Hmmm so much for someone who started out by saying I can't really advise you :o

I'd better get some work done now

  • 115K - I also have to be booze free until the end of the month in order to hit target.
I did ask Big Sis if I could just aim for 10% of target and while she said she would get back to me I think the outloook is poor.;)
She may give me an extra task to complete which I don't really have the time for so perhaps I'd better keep my head down (not too difficult as it's a bit sore from last night) and just get on with keeping a clean sheet until 1st April.

Just thinking how nice it is to wake up in the morning with a clear head and that :A feeling

Big Sister is quite strict isn't she Upsy Daisy.;) :p I drank a fair few drinks yesterday but I am feeling pretty good today surprisingly, I'm quite positive about making my target.

I just ran downstairs and took my milk thistle and my B-complex and a multi vitamin for good luck.

    Hi all

Upsy- re: Vit B, she said a multivitamin didn't usually have enough Vit B in it to make a difference, she said most heavy drinkers lack B12 and Thiamine particularly and you need these to keep your nervous system in shape. When I was at my worst I had Vit B injections from the local nurse, and every time I was discharged from hospital they would give me boxes of the stuff to take. Counsellor said she takes a fizzy one called 'Berroca' so I'm going to get some of that- every little helps.

What are the effects of milk thistle? I know its supposed to help your liver but I don't know how its supposed to work? Any side effects etc?

I don't know if there are any side effects from Milk Thistle but I have been taking it for more than 2 years now.

It is supposed to protect the liver from toxins - including alcohol, and if the liver has already become mildly damaged it can help repair it :D
