Hi all- happy birthday maman, have a lovely day.

GC- I took your advice last night and thought, right I will try and raise my self esteem by doing something for others, so I phoned an old freind and complimented them on how well their daughter had sung in the school play and told them how much I'd missed them since I hadn't been going out drinking, I made sure I only talked about positive things and congratulated them on the fact that they had just got a promotion at work- just little things, but you're right GC when I put the phone down I felt really positive, and my old friend emailed me this morning to say how well I sounded and would I like to go to dinner (and her and OH wouldn't drink). Result. I might spend today thinking about other things I can do- anyone got any ideas?

Hope everyone is OK today- good luck.

    That's great!
Self esteem I think is a very 'deep' emotion, and cannot be changed too much by more superficial things such as fast cars or new handbags.
However, giving to others can really help in my experience.

Also, what you did was doubly good as you made other people feel good. Helping others gets you out of yourself, and your problems, and always seems to pay dividends.

Not really - it's my niece's 40th birthday (obv I was very young when she was born ;) ) do & her birthday is actually the next day, & she lives 8000 miles away (which is why she's rented a house for us all) so I haven't seen her for months & months!

Oh, that's a bit poo! Can't you get him to stay for the do then? Or get the train?

bless you for trying to help me out here!! :AThe do is the sat night, b'day on the sun, & he's leaving his dog behind is why wants to get away early next day ie the birthday day (sorry everyone, this is so boring!!). The train suggestion made me smile.....but has helped, the thought of me & my very barky old dog & DD & luggage on a train & the fact that both ends of the journey are miles from a station & no bus routes has made me think that the drive ain't so bad as an option!! So thank you! still fretting maybe the stress will make the wieght fall off......:rotfl:

    Morning all,

Maman, happy birthday!!! :D Hope you haven't spoilt it with a bad head this morning :D

Glasgow Girl & Jon, I just wanted to pop on quick and say that AA has huge benefits for some, the support is second to none (except being on here :D), if you go to a meeting and you're not sure whether you fit it, give it a few more sessions to make sure as, just as it's difficult for you to walk in like as a newbie, the group has also got to get to know you too. And they will want to know you, you won't find anybody wanting you to succeed more than and AA group! If you really think the group isn't for you, then try another, all different walks of life go to meetings and by different times and locationed meetings you are bound to find one that you feel you fit into.

Sorry if the above makes no sense, I'm late as per

    Gotta go

    xx

Just a quick post to say that I agree with Jo.

Hi all- hope all is well tonight- WB you CAN'T have a niece of 40, that means she was probably born before you!!!!

Am writing a list at the moment of pleasant positive things I can do for others- its about time, I spent so many years being absolutely selfish and not really giving anyone else a thought its payback time.

Hi to everyone, especially the poorly people. Catch you later.

You can put me down for 7 AF DAYS please NTC :D :j :j

But, that's it for me now until after the weekend. I will be having a wee drink tomorrow and Saturday and probably Sunday too - BUT only keeping within the recommended units of alcohol - which is the main thing for me now :j :D

    Hope everyone is ok ;)

Well done fluffyb- can I just ask how you managed to lose so much weight and still drink a bit? I just can't shift the last 12 pounds even though I've given up drink and am sticking to 1000 cals a day (I'm only 5ft 3) and these last few pounds are driving me nuts. Would love to know your secret- well done you.
