Hi all
So many of the comments of the past day have rung so true for me. I wish so much that I could be a more confident person - the lack of confidence/self worth is, I think, at the heart of why I drink. In my job I try to act confident but inside I feel like I'm struggling massively and am just waiting to be 'found out.'
And I hate the social side, feel really uncomfortable out with work people I don't know/trust like family and friends so always drink too much and end up making a fool of myself.
GC - you talk a lot about alcohol not being the problem, ourselves being the problem - any insight into how to build confidence/self esteem? Changing yourself - is this something you achieved by yourself, through AA or through other support?
Thanks (and sorry to be so heavy!)0 -

I am alcoholic, and cannot trust myself. I make bad decisions. They ultimately involve me binge drinking. Thus I need help from other people. That's why AA helps me. I enjoy it. It takes 4 hours of my week (one small night in the pub).
I don't know if it will help you, though you never know until you try it with an open mind.
Through AA, I regained my self-esteem, self confidence and my emotional wellbeing. I tried other routes to get happy, but for me, AA is the only one that has worked.
Advice I was given when I told people I had low self-esteem was to do esteemable acts. Do good for other people, and you will feel better about yourself. Trying to fix yourself directly may not work, so help others.
Whatever you decide, good luck & be honest:T0 -
Fell off big time tonight It's my birthday tomorrow (actually today!) and friends came unexpectedly, OH invited them to stay for supper, bubbly was opened, then a bottle of red and......
I feel so bad now (she says typing very slowly and going back to check on errors) but have time this month to put it right and I will. I even forgot to take my Kudzu!! Love to all.0 -
Maman - don't worry its only one day and you can start again tomorrow.
Well I'm feeling rough after last nights bottle of wine and two bottles of Newcy Brown - it definetly wasn't worth it and wish I hadn't. This has made me resolve even firmer to go teetotal. I'm sort of trying AA at the moment but can't decide whether its for me Also, waiting to start counselling with the Alcohol Advisory Service and some CBT

Morning all,
Maman, happy birthday!!!
Hope you haven't spoilt it with a bad head this morning
Glasgow Girl & Jon, I just wanted to pop on quick and say that AA has huge benefits for some, the support is second to none (except being on here
), if you go to a meeting and you're not sure whether you fit it, give it a few more sessions to make sure as, just as it's difficult for you to walk in like as a newbie, the group has also got to get to know you too. And they will want to know you, you won't find anybody wanting you to succeed more than and AA group! If you really think the group isn't for you, then try another, all different walks of life go to meetings and by different times and locationed meetings you are bound to find one that you feel you fit into.
Sorry if the above makes no sense, I'm late as per
Gotta go
