  • Meant to say as well I have found a couple of lovely new AF drinks.

    2 fingers of becks AF
    2 fingers of lime juice
fill glass with diet lemonade loads of ice and a lime piece:j (makes a bottle of AF becks go a long long way:D )

and for the ginger beer fans if you have a local costco get a box of Bundaberg ginger beer its to die for:j

you saying I talk too much? ;)

Not at all :embarasse :embarasse :embarasse

What I meant was at times the thread is hard to keep up with, i.e. I literally struggle to read all the posts each day. :o:o

Anyway, speaking of wineboxes I'm probably gonna finish one off tonight...don't worry there isn't much in it :p Not a great start to AFF but we are having drinks with our neighbours who may have been avoiding us in January due to Lurky's excellent plan.

By Lurky's excellent plan I mean not drinking, rather than avoiding the neighbours :rotfl:

    TRC
    Sealed Pot Challenge 2009 #478 (target £250)
Debt free date - Dec 2013, Mortgage free date - Jan 2034
    AFF (12/28) [target - 12/28], AFJ (29/31) [target 25/31]
    AFM [no target] [AFD's- 8][1 drink- 4][2 drinks- 4][3 drinks- 1][>3 drinks- 4]
  • Tsk. If you want a job doing properly, do it yourself.

With that in mind, I'll volunteer to keep track of scores in March if you like?

Hoorah, I might get my bar graph afterall :rotfl:

    Morning!

Our new month starts today! Well done to everyone for getting this far....and thank you all for just being here - it has helped me loads.

What I have discovered during January!

    1. That even after a few days of continuous abstaining, I feel and look loads better. My energy levels improve, I sleep better. That's great. Feeling better on both the inside and outside.

    2. My underlying anxiety - which I drank to numb - was actually caused by the drink. I am much more evenly balanced now - less nervy, less anxious. This has been a huge eye-opener for me. A classic Chicken and Egg situation. Glad you have found the central reason for your issues. That is very helpful. Now you are stopping drinking, you should be fine as these problems will disappear :j

    3. That giving up is bl*ody difficult. Alcohol has had a firm grip on me for so long, that it will take me a long time to turn the tables and control it. But I will, because even by drinking considerably less for just a few short weeks, I can see that it was at the root of all of my problems. I think we all agree with that. It is not easy to give up (understatement), and many people cannot do it by themselves. Sounds like you are going for total abstinence. :T

    4. Not to get complacent - not to think "I've got this sorted, gone a week without a drink - gonna have just one glass, then back on the wagon". I have to get my head around the fact that for me, I don't think I'll ever have this sorted - I will just do my best, day by day. So true. Taking it one day at a time is how we live with this disease. You have a lot of wisdom, and it is inspiring to read

    5. Not to think about tomorrow - just today. Exactly :
Just for today: I will try to live through this day only,
and not tackle all my problems at once.
I can do something for twelve hours that
would appall me if I felt that I had to
keep it up for a lifetime.

    6. Not to beat myself up if I have three glasses instead of one now and again. I need to stop putting myself down and expecting myself to fail. Very true, don't make yourself feel guilty and crappy, which can lead to more drinking. If you slip, get back on your feet as soon as possible and put it down to experience. The great thing is you will never be in this situation if you don't pick up that first drink. :j

    X

    Marvellous post.

One of the most insightful things I have read about alcoholism/out of control drinking/drinking too much etc

Good luck people - great great efforts for January, and some people hit their targets :T :T , and virtually everyone drank less than they otherwise would have, which is a fantastic achievement. :cheesy:

evening all...just popping in to say...keep it going for February....I actually think that not drinking or cutting down is now far more fashionable than it used to be...I look at the pubs that have closed over the years and now it seems that people I know seem to understand a lot more that drinking booze is not like breathing in that you have to do it to exist.

I love waking up in the morning and feeling OK...i shuddered over the weekend when I remembered the times when I hit it hard the night before and then had to get bathed and ready for work, feeling like s%%t.....and really having to force myself into the bath...and out...and thanking the powers that be that I'd made it to work in one piece....what a load of needless effort!

    doh!

    take care everyone....
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007
