Hi all - best of luck with Day 1!!

Am joining Jo & ym & not having a target apart from "as many as possible". I have the sort of feeble mentality that chucks the towel in at the first sniff of failure (it happened in Jan...) so taking that pressure off myself.

erm,,, jo & ym - not meaning to suggest you two have got feeble mentalities!!

In a stonking start to the wb month am not AF today but intending to practice that m word. (Moderation! wash your minds out with soap) Have usually started at midday - it's a Sunday thing, not had anything yet. Later on!

Actually TRC, you may have a point......

Patchoulli your post really hit the nail on the head, thats exactly how I feel thanks for putting it in black and white :D

elset you are so right, why should I feel carp everyday, I should wake up feeling great and raring to go everyday, another excellent reason to give alcohol the boot! I AM worth it and deserve to so does everyone else :A

Well I didn't manage to be AF last night so my Jan total was 12 which is 12 more than usual so Im taking the possitive spin!!

As for Feb Im staring as I mean to go on, one step, one day at a time so today WILL be AF :j Am going to finish writing up an assignment then start on the next so need a clear head!!

    Have a lovely afternoon all,

    Love Mari xx

  • Hello everyone :hello: :hello:

HOORAH for Lurkio :j :j :j :j extremely late mate but just as sincere. Someone mentioned that you have quite probably changed lives with your idea (molly or eselt i think sorry) and they were right. My life is so much better with a grasp on my drinking and I know I would not have achieved that without the challenge so thanks again.

I ended my month with the grand total of 16 days AF, £80 saved and 2lb lighter. I am very proud of my achievement and I thank many of you for your support. Despite being AF, the month ended with a roar of a different kind for me which very nearly stopped me enjoying and hopefully adding my own support on the thread. Thanks to a good friend here I have decided to get over myself and continue in my quest to cut down and to share that on here honestly.

So my target for February remains at 15 with units of 21 max per week. I will be a real stretch for me as this is a big month for social events and a few short breaks which I know I will want to enjoy having a few drinks with my friends (within the 21 max unit limit)This is fine by me and well within my goal of cutting down, the challenge for me will be to make sure it does not become the norm again.

Patchoulli your post really hit a chord with me particularly the complacency one. Whilst I know I am fortunate enough not to be fighting the demons some on here are I do not want ever to go back to the way I used to drink. Feb and March will be telling for me

Jo I hope your friend can help you again this time
faymjmck.Great idea with the iphone I am going to decide something similar over the next couple of days to use as real motivation (already £80 in the bank)
winebox good luck with the scores I will be watching and learning;) :A :A

Everyone else hope you are all doing exactly what you want to do

Now that is a long post:rotfl: sorry folks ill keep it short tomorrow promise.

    9 - Grey Pilgrim (target 31/31) - Actual 28

Actual of 30 for me, actually - I only had the one slip early on in the month. :) Come on Lurk, get it right. :)

Tsk. If you want a job doing properly, do it yourself.

With that in mind, I'll volunteer to keep track of scores in March if you like?

    4. Not to get complacent - not to think "I've got this sorted, gone a week without a drink - gonna have just one glass, then back on the wagon"

This needs to be repeated again and again again. Speaking for myself there is always the danger of thinking "Ah, I've done really well, I'll reward myself with a drink".

Or even worse, starting the month with steely resolve because the panic attacks are still fresh in my mind, and then a month later, when the severity of the memory fades a bit (which it already has), thinking "ah, it wasn't that bad, lets have a drink"

I did the same with ciggs (what a twonk - staying off them for a week and the rewarding myself with .... A CIGARETTE!!) until the stupidity of it all sank in and I gave them up for good.

Keep repeating to yourself all the postive reasons why you are quitting or cutting back on the booze guys, and never let yourself forget that you're doing something amazing, and doing your mind and body a fantastic favour.
