"Well, week 5 of no alcohol and I see a different person in the mirror. My eyes no longer look dull and vacant, they actually have a little sparkle and my skin doesn't look like uncooked pastry anymore. I feel that I have won a battle but not yet the war. Hope everyone else is at the point they want to be, I never want to be that person I was, I have been tempted but I just think back to what I had become. The sun is shining at the moment and I feel good and want to continue to have the sun in my life."

Welcome back Winebox - and thank you for being so considerate ;)

and therein lies the issue....after not doing something for so long, does that make it more likely we'll carry on doing so..or does your "form" run out....interesting thoughts though...to an observer we could look bomb-proof...we know different.....

Take your eye off the prize and one will drink again. If we look at this thread alone, we can see how difficult it is to not drink alcohol. People had the very best intentions at the start of January, but could not stop drinking.

Many people are not going to hit their targets, and that is only after less than three weeks, when they are really focused on not drinking. That proves how hard it is. Some people will be back drinking their pre-January levels before long.

It is very very very hard to stop drinking when your relationship with alcohol is not normal (which it isn't for most people on this thread).
Unless one takes away the desire to drink (by changing themselves and removing the need to drink) then it is a very very hard task. A life craving a drink is not a life at all. Feeling in constant denial is horrid. Change the person and you change the craving.

That said, I think everyone on this thread is showing willing that they want to quit/cut down and that they have a problem, and that is half the battle.
Best of luck everyone - your efforts are humbling. :T
  • And my actual is 15/17 please. Aren't ham egg and chips just delicous!
