Re the logs, to cut them to length you need a chainsaw. I have 2 :D a petrol one and an electric one from Lidl which has been very good (been using it for 8 months). I would also recomend the keflar leggings, gloves and helmet/ear defenders. They are expensive but it depends on what value you place on your legs etc. Also a circuit breaker just in case you cut through the cable. You'll also need something to lift the log off the ground as you don't want to hit the ground as you cut - kick-back which can hurt you plus blade damage.

If you want to split the logs rather than divide them into lengths a hand axe with a flat head the other side of the axe and a lump hammer is really effective. Turn the log on end, whack with axe to embed it and then wallop the back of the axe with the lump hammer until the log splits.

    Hope this helps

    Wow that is impressive.

How my own small farm at the moment just had a ring at the door - police, first thought it was due to our foster baby as we may be under threat from her mother. Then he said I have mixed news for you and I thought it was something to do with my daughter who is staying at a friends tonight. Turns out that they had come across some sheep and they had managed to frightened them over our cattle grid and into the garden and they wanted toshut the gate to keep safe until morning and they can find who they belong to. So have 10 or 12 sheep probably busily munching my garden to bits. I'm thinking mint sauce OH is going to be delighted and so is the dog in the morning. Oh dear!

    DTxx

weird reading your post without smilies FAL I'm sure you can find some munching sheepfor me.

Quite unhappy as thats not as much as some people on here

Don't be silly, I've only just started and am very happy with my £2 a day at the moment, but I may have to take it down lower if my bank balance keeps looking the way it is, so don't stress about it - Everyone has their own comfort zone, and a payment is a payment - you wouldn't have made that if you wasn't here so well done for making a start... :j

    Morning all.

It doesn't matter how big or small your pad is, or even if you cant make one at all, but anything you do manage to pad will make a difference. We are all doing so well, just think of all the interest that is being saved by our pad payments:T

    Pad £2.50 to Po cc
Pad, started 28.11.08 running total £3674.91:T

i'm including credit card payments in my PaD even though they're not in my signature. This is to repay the Christmas hangover!

My PAD is £100 to VAT. Was going to be HMRC but changed my mind. Still the same agency though i suppose.

I'm still going to be well behind come Jan 31st:o

But as we all say every day....its better to pay something than nothing. These institutions and authorities like to see people are at least making an effort. Even if we cannot PAD every day, the fact we are all doing something as often as we can is costing each of us less in the long term and THEM more in the long term!!!!

    But its Saturday.....:j :j :j :j

Got the big shop to do today. Determined to keep it a LSD on the weekly shop - spent £57 for a family of four. Not too bad!
