This is just my opinion and what I would try to do...........

As 0% rates are now few and far between and not always for that long
I would ask Barclaycard about a life of balance rate - usually comes in around 6.9% and haggle for the fee to not be charged. Transfer MBNA to this and once gone close the account or at least try to.........

In my experience they will offer you a great rate for some more time and no fees - sound grateful and transfer OD to here and then reduce the OD to an emergency amount at Halifax.

If they don't make any offers.....
I would not add to the Halfiax card to clear the OD as you will probably find the OD is cheaper than the LOB rate. I would concentrate on a reduction plan - £50 to £100 per month

Or if you think your rating is up to it - apply for an Egg card - 0% for 12 months or so

I hope this helps and as I said only my thoughts - the final decision must be yours.

    Gilly

Thanks. I will ring barclays up and see what they can offer. Might also try the egg card. My halifax OD is at a shocking 18.8 apr so that has to be cleared asap. I did have it ceared and just used it to clear the halifax card as i wanted a 0 balance before i balance transferred

I think that some overdrafts with Halifax are cheaper than others - I get a staff rate with them so mine isn't too bad anyway, but it's worth asking the staff what the best rate would be. It's been years since I worked in a branch so my product knowledge is out of date!

If you can get 0% on a card though it might be worth taking the hit on the BT fee to clear it.

There is something comforting about seeing no red figure on your online banking too :rotfl:

  • :j Congrats on killing the Ulster Card Weebag, thats another load of your mind ;)

£1.18 PAD for me today... only a small one, but it all helps.... I am now wishing the next two weeks away, so it can be pay day again and I can afford some bigger payments :o

Also need to look at BTing OHs two cards..... Egg has some of the balance at 29.9%+ because he took some cash out on it  and the other card is Vanquis so is probably about 39.9%.... I am hoping he hasn't taken cash out on there... he says not  . We shall see when the statement comes in!
