OK having never been to any of those cities....which one would you recommend....I've heard New York is really tiring and we don't really want to be knackered before we get on the plane for our second leg.......What is there to do and see in the other cities.....I quite fancy Atlanta but know absolutely nothing about it.......Maybe Orlando would be more relaxing????What do you think??

New York can be really tiring - it's a big city though, so plenty to see and do...how relaxing it would be would probably depend on how much you chose to do....one benefit of NY is provided you stay somewhere fairly central, you won't need a car...though I suppose that if you're walking a lot it might make it more tiring.

As for Orlando, I've only been to do the amusement parks which can also be tiring, but again depends on the pace you keep - though certainly plenty to keep you busy if you like that kind of thing...I would also imagine there are nice options for relaxing holidays outside the parks too...depending on the time of year you would go and how OK you are with hot and REALLY humid might make a difference...I've only ever been in June (and then not for a very long time) and the humidity is unbelievable...almost hard to breathe it's so stifling...but in the cooler months I would think it would be lovely...I know some go to Orlando without having a car...personally I would only even consider that if we were staying at one of the Disney resorts - anywhere outside I would want a car myself...also depending on the time of year it may be overrun with families with kids, so choosing a hotel that caters more to business travellers there for conferences or somewhere away from the parks might make more sense.

I grew up about 2 1/2 hours from Chicago - it's a great city with loads to do and an easy public transport system...but since I grew up going there, it's hard for me to know if it's a holiday destination or not - if that makes sense?

I haven't been to Boston or Atlanta...I hear that Boston is lovely...Atlanta again will have the humidity thing in the summer but is also said to be a nice city to visit.

Maybe this is a time that a trip to a travel agent might make sense - just to get some ideas and some brochures to flip through to see what appeals to you, and then book it yourself?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

If Orlando is on the list -then how about Miami for Fort Lauderdale instead (airports are really close) and have a couple of days on the beach rather than inland at Orlando with tiring but fun themeparks ?

Atlanta personally I don't think has much to see and is a fairly high crime city

Chicago would definitely get my vote as well as Boston (airport is really close to the city which is a plus)or New York and if you are flying US Air Philadelphia is an interesting city ....or Washington if flying United. Depends what you're interested in really most cities are about sightseeing so not really relaxing but treat it as a two (or three) centre holiday so part of the trip rather than a reason to break the journey and it gets more appealing.

i certainly would recommend Boston. Had 4 nights there last year and really enjoyed the place. its very european and has a lot of old biuldings within the new modern skyscrapers. it contains a trail through the city that you can do by following a line in the pavement.this takes you to all the historic parts of the city invoved during the war of independence and the boston tea party and all that.also found the Cheers bar quite interesting.Qiute compact , Boston is a great short break trip and flight from uk about 6 hours (way back took 4 and half hours!).
Only other place i have stayed on your list is Orlando. Definately not relaxing when we were there as we hit disney and the parks etc. good thing about Orlando is you can find pretty cheap accomadation but did find it a bit grotty downtown.

oh, we're never bored - but we're worn out, even though we barely drink and rarely stay up to the wee small hours of the morning. :)...thats what I meant by ready to come home...plus I think once we hit the last day, I go into 'going home' mode and start thinking about the long flight and then I get a bit blah and sad and then just want to be home because of the upcoming travelling...it's never that we've run out of things to do or anything like that. :)

Last time I was ready to come home had 8 nights on the Strip and we had done everything we wanted to do and were running out of money it was time. I love Vegas more than anywhere else but I think that I will from now on do no more than 4 nights on the trot maybe 4 in Vegas 2 at GC and tehn 4 back in Vegas ever splitting it to have a few nights downtown is enough.

Still with 40+ trips under my belt that probably is enough ;-)
Its Vegas time -no longer :T a five year old has changed Vegas time to Orlando time

Looking forward to the TR. As for the IP lifts, there are a set of lifts behind the main ones that people tend to miss and they are far less busy. Our last 3 stays there have been on the 2nd floor so we didn't use the lift at all and just used the stairs.

    luci,

We were on the 17th floor in 17100. Luckily right next to the lifts and ice machinesyes we did use the alternative lifts. Even went up in the elevator on evening with Marilyn Monroe and Stevie Wonder!!

Can't you tell the IP had lookalikes working there, although some of them I had to see hwta they were wearing to work out who they were supposed to look like...lol

    Just a quick question
I'm having a devil of a job persuading Al to go back to Vegas next year.....it's not that he doesn't like it....he loves it....and it's not the money either.....it's the distance.
I know if I work on him I'll get my own way eventually but just incase he wont budge any suggestions for breaking up the journey into 2 smaller flights.....maybe a 6 hour and 4 hour staying a couple of days somewhere else......
    Ideas please????
I have heard great things about Chicago. Why not see if you can at least spring for prem. economy or business on the flight home. We have decided that with al the times we go that we will cut down and stump up for that.
Also, we really liked splitting the trip at JFK. 6 hours then 4 hours, time to stretch your feet.
As an aside, don't know what Tracy is going to do now that we can only take 1 bag each on future trips, she has even had the cases out and tried to fit all of my and her stuff in, she says I will have to cut down!! Certainly won't be able to take the clubs any more.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Why can you only take 1 bag each on future trips?

Because AA, Delta, and United have all gone to 1 free bag each only. And I am not paying the extra for another bag. she wil just have to lose some of the makeup;)
Scrub that. Just checked and United and AA are still allowing 2 bags. I just assumed that all the airlines were doing one bag only now like Delta.
Well, looks like the golf clubs and makeup are back in again,as we are going with United next trip. Just wish she could travel a bit lighter
