A year or 2 back when we transferred from Talktalk Broadband, the only company that would take us as TT had taken over our line, was BT. And even then we had to agree to stay with them for a minimum of 12 months.

We pay line rental to BT with the basic call plan and have the SKY package upgraded for the faster speed/bandwidth (I think).

As I'm also O2 for all mobiles (3) we will be looking at how cheap O2 is compared to Sky.

Thanks for all the info in this thred!
    Amanda

are you sure you can use a pay as your go O2 phone number and still get the discount? Or is it contract only?

    PAYG is okay.

Just one quick question regarding the MAC code, I've just asked for mine and am told it will take 5 working days. The 02 site says thats okay you can come back with it BUT Quidco say the transaction should be wholly carried out online so is it likely that if I have to phone in with the MAC that they would discount the cashback?

The *signing-up online for the O2 Broadband* is the main thing as far as I can see - the MAC issue is a separate thing - so provided you sign up online, then the MAC being given over the phone at a later date really should not matter to Quidco.

I see that you can add your MAC code after signing up, does anyone know if you can add your o2 phone number as well to get the cheaper monthly rate?

Looking at the o2 free sims webpage, they can take up to 28 days to be delivered, and they need activating, which means is won't be useable until after the 9th January deadline.

    TIA

Thanks for the above makara, teach me to read the entire thread as I see its already mentioned :o

As regards buying a sim card you can get one via Carphone Warehouse with a £10 top up which you will need anyway and go via Quidco, total cost with free next day delivery is £10. (in fact as its not a phone but a sim card only it will be delivery via RM and not necessarily next day delivery)

I keep looking but I still cant see where the deadline is shown other than in the Original Post

    Thanks

  • I'm assuming its Quidco that has told Martin the deadline of 9th January for the cashback but I'll get one of the team to confirm this on Monday.
  • In terms of getting O2 BB you need any Mobile Number before you will be accepted. This is to satisfy ordering/delivery notifications. You will get a text from the courier just before your router is delivered. From the T&C's :-

    4. provide the following information:
    1. a valid UK mobile phone number;
You'll also need a debit/credit card to allow them to credit check you, I assume this means the Mobile does not have to be registered to your address (ie it can be PAYG from another network).

Where it becomes less clear is the amount of cashback you'll get. Quidco are stating £70. Other cashback sites are quoting £25 cashback for non O2 customers. O2 customers get the full £70.

From the O2 website, T&C's for being classified as an O2 customer :-
    5 Pay & Go Customers - Minimum Top-Up Requirement
5.1 If you’re a Pay & Go customer and sign-up to a discounted O2 Home Broadband package you need to keep your O2 Pay & Go mobile active (i.e. able to make and receive calls) and satisfy a minimum top-up requirement to keep the discount after your first month of O2 Home Broadband.
5.2 The details of the minimum top-up requirements are:
The O2 Pay & Go mobile used to qualify for the discounted Home Broadband is topped-up by a total at least £10 in the three month period prior to each month’s Home Broadband top-up date (this will always be 3 days before your broadband bill date). This means that if you are due to receive your Home Broadband bill on 4th of each month, then you must make sure your Pay & Go mobile is topped up a total of at least £10 in the three months prior to the 1st of each month (your Home Broadband Top Up Date)
The 'Gotcha'' for me is that you have to be able to make and receive calls for a complete 3 month period. Would'nt this mean a top up every month?

Looking at this a bit more carefully. Minimum contract is 12 months with NO early break clause.
  • As long as you have credit on your O2 chip it doesn't expire so no hidden holes. I have a work mobile so use mine very little but have an O2 Pay as you go just in case never had issues with my credit expiring within a certain time period.

This is good broadband at a very good price its costing less than 5quid a month....

    Thanks

I guess as long as you are in credit then you are able to make/receive calls.

    Cheers
