WHsmith is actually doing pretty good compared to others
I did hear that waterstones is having problems, its gonna be a fight between the two of them, but i think smiths is definitely in a stronger position as book sis not its only source of income0 -

I think you all need to remember that WHSmiths are not just retail but are also distributers of daily newspapers and magazines to supermarkets and newsagents. if they went under they would take out a larger proportion of independent shops.
Yes no doubt this does not mean they are safe but they have more strings to their bows then what we give them credit for."Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -

Much of the discussion on this topic is hearsay however, if you think logically why should shops such as WH Smiths and Boots survive the current situation? What do they offer that you CANNOT get elsewhere?
It is stores such as these which will struggle over the coming months. We have all got sucked in by the supermarkets and I for one very rarely go into Smiths or Boots anymore. I can buy my medication, toiletries, magazines, greetings cards etc from any of the main supermarkets if I so choose. Books can be brought online, often cheaper and in brand new condition ie not thumbed through by other shoppers and magazines are delivered to my door.
The shops that will survive are the shops that offer unique products. It will certainly stop every town looking alike, and that's not necessarily a bad thing in the long run.Nice to save.0 -

When I was in retail I knew exactly what was being ordered 6 months in advance.
It's an entirely different issue. Customer orders and shop stock are two seperate areas, and therefore, an order from the warehouse is nothing to do with what is happening on the shop floor.Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£250 -
