Listening to Radio 5 Live one night, I heard a discussion about the amount of stores who were due to go into administration. The guest speaker (I tuned in too late to catch his name) said that there's a big high street company going into administration on 15th January.
He wouldn't disclose which one it was but advised everyone not to hang onto any vouchers they received at Christmas.
We'll soon find out if he was correct.

Hardly a prediction there take your pick from High street stores, anyone of them could be next. But you are right to spend vouchers, also make sure you use up your WH Smith Clubcard points, as these are no longer issued, and I think expire this month. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

No Chance BHS - Arcadia would prop it up if failing...
My money would be a retailer beginning with "D". Not going to mention the name as we should not really all be speculating.0 -

Totally agree with that, think Tescos and Arcadia are about as safe as possible at the moment.
Am also with you on Debernhams, ever since they stopped with the Nectar points thing its been going down hill.
HoF are on rocky ground too, but think they got another few years in them yet. But Monsoon Acessories I think are in for a difficult year.0 -
There are a lot that are on rocky ground - WH Smith, Debs, HoF, JJB Sports, PC World, Dixons, Currys - the latter three must be on their knees, there are so many places that are selling the same thing for the same price!0

What I find so difficult to understand is that so many of these firms are at risk of going under after only a few months of market slowdown? some of these firms have had year on year substantial profits especially with the amount that has been spent in the retail sector over the last 10 years or so due to excessive spending on credit (mostly down to me I think!)and this year that's tailed off or they are making a loss but what has happened to all the profits they have made? surely they don't get eaten up that quickly in the space of a few months?, I can't believe there are that many appalling business models for these chains that haven't been prudent when times have been flush to keep enough aside to ride the waves in times such as this?Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00
