  • the new focus rs looks best in frozen white black or performance blue
i have had two new st's in the blue and one in frozen white but a jump up to 25k for a ford focus is a bit much
i will wait and see how they depreciate and how long it takes before ford offer them on privelige with a 1k deposit allowance

I mentioned earlier - not sure what thread now.. :o That as the first couple of batches are sold, ford's have put the price up to 30k due to the credit crunch.... now is that bad rumour or true?
If had the dosh, I would buy it and a Land Cruiser - need something to put the dog in - I've not got one, but if I had all that money and could afford to retire, then I would have a dog and a Land Cruiser to put it in and maybe a MX5 too (guys at work call them hairdressers cars :o ).

  • none and i never would i like a car that starts when i go out in it and gets me where i am going and back
i know plenty of people who have bought and then sold them
the whole motoring world know's how reliable they are

Really. So you're forming your opinions on hearsay then. You've never owned one, and have not the slightest clue about their reliability.

I suspect your mates sold them because they couldn't afford to run them. Hardly surprising, since they're hand-built high performance sports cars, and not factory-built shopping trollies. Your mates probably bought wedges, which is like comparing a MK4 Ford Escort to a MK1 Ford Focus.

I suspect your 'whole motoring world' extends no further than the entertainment-influenced rantings of Jeremy Clarkson.

what will his reaction be to the speed restricted cars the governments advisors think will save 1/3 of all road accidents?

who are the governments advisors on these matters?
    ...work permit granted!
  • Go for it Tiggermadvic! I had a Fiat X19 (yes i know they were rust buckets etc) when I was in my 20's and I loved that car and it was worth every pound (and there was a lot of them) it cost to keep the bodywork in one piece! After a series of practical ugly/plain cars that serve their purpose but that's all I've just let the midlife crisis win and got a BMW Z4 - bright red, black soft top, the most beautiful thing on 4 wheels, sighs. It makes me smile everytime I think of it, driving's a complete pleasure which makes up for it drinking petrol and costing an arm and a leg for tax, insurance and everything else - I came on here looking for best priced petrol so i could afford to eat! In smiles alone it's been worth it!

My sister has recently bought a TT, 3.2V8 coupe with a high spec, dark blue with the most gorgeous blue leather seats. She's not had any problems so far, it's a 2005 with about 40,000. She likes the sound of the V8 but it really does guzzle petrol and advised me to get a 2L if I got one. It's worth having a look on TT forums you soon get to know what problems tend to crop up and how much they cost-ish.

I very nearly got a TT and was between the TT roadster, Z4 and MX5 - the new coupe is stunning and would have been more practical with it's retractable hardtop (if that what they're called!) but it only came out in April and I wasn't prepared to buy a new one to watch it loose so much value. The boot space in the MX5 is very small too, doesn't fit a suitcase in. Both the TT and Z4 have small but practical sized boots - very important if you don't want to have to custom pack your shopping! The MX5 was a lot cheaper to buy, tax and insure though.

I doubt he will be happy and may contemplate emigrating......... but then everywhere is going a bit pc... I liked Cyprus when I went there this year - it was like going back in time.. :D

The government advisors are basically killjoys. Some have been known to call them complete 'tw*ts', but were criticised for being too nice and that stronger words were needed.

There is quite a long stretch of dual carriageway near me and they are putting up new cameras... they are er, can't remember the name for them, but they kinda follow you along and see if you can stick to 50 all the time....

The need for these is quite clear. Its called 'money'.

I could understand if they put them up to keep people doing the 70 but to reduce it is plain insane.

Its all about money. Money grabbing b8stards.

We work hard and pay our taxes and get abused...

    Rant over....

Edit: Log burners gone out - I'm going to bed...

Good thoughful post this, at last someone who's an individual and is celebrating it, and has always had the individual streak by the sounds of the car history.

I've driven car transporters for donkey's years and i well remember delivering a Astra turbo convertible to a garage years ago in a West country village, the lady who had bought it saw the truck and came to see her new car (6 months old) and she was they told me over 75, well i say good luck to the girl and long may she have refused to grow old gracefully, a lovely woman too.

I'm not sure that the TT actually is that unique though, and our opinions differ there, to me its just a fashionable Audi coupe, no different apart from the body shape to anything else from the VW stable, but each to their own, i'm very pleased you are are having such pleasure from your Z4, and i advise anyone else to hurry up and do what pleases them before the next set of loony politicians makes it illegal.

I think you may have touched on some good points about the MX5 though, apart from luggage space which may or may not hinder the OP, who will just have to nip to the Mazda dealer and judge for herself, the MX5 will without doubt be far cheaper to maintain long term as well as the points you mentioned.

When i research possible car purchases i also get the servicing costs over my proposed ownership time and add them to the overall view.
Find out just how much a clutch change will be, a cambelt change (if fitted), a set of brake pads and discs all round (supply and fit), brake fluid change, and these days how much to replace headlamp bulbs, some new cars have to have the front removed to change the headlight bulbs, sounds ludicrous but its true.

...and along those lines, the headlights can be Xenon which is good when they work but £100 each headlight just to replace just the bulb let alone fit it too. It's just a sporty Golf to me (same chassis & engine, different body!) so i'll never be tempted myself...
