Anyone else noticed that?

Is this what Top Gear were talking about not long ago, about Audi now being the choice of car for, erm, 'male chickens'?Genie

If you like the look of the car, thats great and everyone has their own particular wants and desires, makes the world go round.
Tiggermadvic, have you driven one, and i don't mean a saunter down a lovely open road enjoying the considerable power that some TT's have.
And a salesman will make sure your test drive route is well chosen for the purpose of showing no bad points.
I mean drive it down to the supermarket (and park it), in heavy traffic in the rain, in the dark on a gloomy night.
There's not a lot of room in them, with arrow slits for windows and huge blind spots at the rear, not a nice car for close parking either.
The practicality may not be quite as much fun as the fantasy, my wife who is a very competent and quick driver used to drive one of these regularly, she enjoyed the power, said it was very fast, but likened it to driving a coffin.0 -
i love TT'S, they are heavy on fuel, but they look great, even the mk1 hasnt aged it still looks great.
but as other have said it will cost a fortune to run,you cant just put a set of cheap tyres on a car like this, and if you get a quattro version you have to change a set of tyres at a time, you cant just change one it knackers the diff, which is very expensive to replace/repair. you really need to research this type of car before buying, you will need to know a lot about it if you want to look after it,or have a lot of money to get someone else to look after it if your ignorant about it.
try finding an owners club forum and express an interest in them and they can maybe give you more details about pitfalls.
i also know the dash display in the early models were very common parts to fail,no dash lights,no fuel gauge or temp gauge,etc,etc.......work permit granted!0 -

Thankyou GilbertandSullivan this is exactly the information I was looking for...first hand experience. I haven't driven one before but will certainly consider what you have said if I test drive one. However after reading all the posts, I am begining to think that practically this might not be the car for me.On a sliming world journey to loose 62lb: -3.50 -

Again very useful information...and so right about research! I am generally quite a cautious person so really glad posted on here first! ThankyouOn a sliming world journey to loose 62lb: -3.50 -
oh go for it, that is my ultimate dream car - when I get the money from the sale of my house I'm tempted to go and buy one for a few months..... just as a frivilous middle aged thing to do!
A word of warning though, ex used to have a BMW Z4 (not soft top) and I got hassled to hell any time I drove it, I'm small and blonde and sitting at traffic lights I've literally had guys getting out and tapping at the window........ not sure whether a TT would draw the same attention!
And get a white one - there's one in my town that's white and it is so gorgeous!
Its my dream car too alyth.....and I kind of feel its now or never but I'm going to plough on with my research and do some number crunching. However after reading all the posts, I feel it may always remain my dream car!On a sliming world journey to loose 62lb: -3.50 -

If we knew why you wanted one, then may be we could help you - in the sense get you to chose something more practical but still good to look at!
I guess my answer is very girly....I like the way they look. However with such a big purchase I would never let my heart rule my head. I have always said I would like to own a sports car before I'm thirty so any other suggestions greatfully recieved! On a sliming world journey to loose 62lb: -3.50 -

That's as good a reason as any.
BIL used to have one about 10 years ago. He got rid due to practicality issues in the end, but never had any reliability issues with it (mind you, he bought from new)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
my friend had one (the old type), in the garage to have it's dashboard out, and again, and again I think, eventually being replaced. came out with faults it didn't go in with.
and they're expensive to fix at main dealers.
I can't comment on the new one though. It's been designed from new, rather than the old one which is a golf I believe with a new coat?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0
