My son-in-law has a company TT and he's done 80k miles in two years - no trouble at all with it, though it is maintained scrupulously. The next year or two is going to be dreary enough by all accounts, so if you want one, go for it. You're a long time dead.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

The new mx5 does have a steel folding roof, if you pop into the Mazda showroom you'll see, you can also have the fabric convertible as well, i believe the steel roof is more expensive.
I'm not sure if the fabric roof is still produced however.
    The mx5 mk3 was released in 06.
Its very nice looking now, they have flared the front arches out similar to the RX8.
Also if you have the fabric top - you can have a hard one for the winter - need somewhere to store it though.

OP - also avoid MG Roadsters and again I don't like the MR2 (allegedly) Roadster - although in saying that, we've had quite a few imports in of late, and they are much nicer than the UK ones.

Personally - I rather fancy the new RS Focus - think the first couple of batches are already sold. Also heard (through an unreliable grapevine) that Ford's are upping the price from 25k to 30k and blaming the 'credit crunch' - I can't believe it to be true. No doubt one of you guys will know! Or find out!

True enough although I bought a brand new Boxster a few years ago to reward myself for getting a new job. It didn't really make me happy - the running costs made me resent sitting in traffic jams even more than usual, people in old bangers seemed to aim for it in traffic, I never get let out of side turnings and couldn't leave it parked anywhere even slightly dodgy.

So all in all I had less freedom and, in a way, enjoyment than if I'd been driving around in an old banger!

Not trying to put you off tiggermadvic, just saying that the most expensive option isn't always the most enjoyable and although it's good to enjoy life, if the actual buying is more enjoyable than the ownership experience then the enjoyment can wear off quite quickly.

I guess my answer is very girly....I like the way they look. However with such a big purchase I would never let my heart rule my head. I have always said I would like to own a sports car before I'm thirty so any other suggestions greatfully recieved!

    but why a sports car,

True - but no doubt his company pay for it to be maintained, its not cheap and if OP doesn't peg it soon, she could be spending the rest of her life paying for it! :D

  • Really. What TVR have you owned?

none and i never would i like a car that starts when i go out in it and gets me where i am going and back
i know plenty of people who have bought and then sold them
the whole motoring world know's how reliable they are
remember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice ;)

I'd still have the RS out of all the sporty efforts around at the moment - but as posted earlier, not for another 5k if that is true!

Cmon Jeannieblue, a fast car it may be, but its a hot hatch , not a sports car.

And its....front..wheel..drive..(hang on while i wash me mouth out with soap and water, yuk!), and not really a lovely young lady's sports car.

A girls dream of a sports car should look and be delicately poised, fine and curvaceous, be a dreamy colour and light, fast and nimble to drive, and most important be RWD...

Of course i wouldn't dream of reminiscing back to when young ladies drove MG midgets and Triumph spitfire's etc and wore.....hang on i must go and lie down in a darkened room...;)

this is where your wisdom ends i see gilly? :p
the focus RS will be amazing, i have every faith in fords RS division, they make beautiful legendary cars,ok its front wheel drive but so was the last focus, and the last escort RS turbo and have all faired well.
i like the look of the new RS but its out of my current budget even if its only £25k. they wont even do priviledge discount on it either.

jeanie i see your getting gilbert all hot and bothered at the thought of your drving an MG.
dont worry i know you wouldnt touch an MG ;)
