I had my literacy + numeracy tests in Nottingham on 24th April for the AO role and my interview on the 2nd May. I received my successful letter on the 8th May, there was no mention of a waiting list though. Ive just rang Newcastle and they said it's currently taking them 5 - 6 weeks at least to do the checks and they have a big backlog. I said to her ' So its going to be a long time yet then' to which i got the straightforward answer of 'Yes'......Hmmm well at least she was honest!

    I have a start date!!!

    15th June :j

Not bad at all since my present job ends on the 12th. Interview was 28th March to give an idea of timescale. Really not that long.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. Hope you get the news you want soon

Thanks to a very lovely person called Lynn who has been processing my application from February since last week when the person who was dealing with it (well, I say dealing with it - he seemed to have done nothing other than lose information) everything has been done and I'm now just waiting a start date. Of course, that start date will probably be around the two days in June I cannot start - family thing - but I'm just so revealed that the wheels are finally in motion. Thanks to the last person's incompetence it seems the majority of AO roles at my local JC have been filled so I just hope I get posted to a place near to me and not somewhere 40 miles away...

Hi there, I have received my CRB (original returned to me about two weeks ago, maybe a bit longer, from the HR dept in Newcastle). I'm starting the role next week, and still yet to receive any paperwork confirming I have the role. Has anyone else had this problem? I chased it up last Monday and the person I spoke to in HR (again I also think I have the not particularly helpful HR contact) who said that letters were in the post, but I'm afraid it really came across as though he couldn't be bothered, he didn't even take my name !! anyway, ... still nothing, so I chased it again today, but also could not get through on the contact number I have for HR. This is really, really frustrating. Technically, unless I have a formal offer or something in writing, I don't really have a job !!! Should I just turn up on the strength of a couple of phone calls, and hope the rest follows in due course? Am I right to assume I will get the advertised salary for EO and the contract period advertised? I have seen the comments about office move etc etc, but given the major recruitment at the moment, surely all contact does not come to a standstill ??!! Any advice on alternative, new contact numbers for HR would be very much appreciated !!

Hiya, I received a call from the JC to arrange a start date with me and I was in a similar position where I had to give up my current job so I asked the JC lady for a few details of the job (whether it was permanent, what the salary was etc.) and she was very helpful and answered them all. She also said that because of the workload in the recruitment office I may not receive a confirmation letter before starting but not to worry about this and just turn up as arranged (I actually did receive a letter but I thought it was good for her to tell me this as I would have worried if I hadn't got one). She also said if I have any other questions before I start that I should phone her so if you are worried about things maybe you should call the JC where you'll be working and ask your questions.
    Hope this helps

As I might have mentioned on this forum about 30 pages back  I applied at the beginning of March, tests and EO interview 23 March, waiting list "offer" 21st April.

Evidently they have now asked my referees for their references.

I'm thouroughly disillusioned with this whole process.

However - does anyone know just what office you're likely to get sent to if and when I ever start? I'm in the Manchester area and would, obviously, hope to be in my local JC or at least one within a reasonable distance.

I also had an interview early April for EO role in South Tyne & Wear area, received letter to state I was successful at interview but on a 12 month waiting list with no guarantees. I rang the HR team in April in Newcastle who advised on a couple of occasions that 105 people who had received the 'success at interview' letter would definitely be posted as they had over 100 posts to fill for this particular vacancy, which was very positive news. They advised it was simply a case of waiting for the checks (CRB, medical) and then admin etc etc, where each Jobcentre would confirm numbers of candidates and dates for starting etc, and then they would be in touch, but they were hoping for start dates fairly quickly and stated it wouldn't be a case of months and months. Since then I have had the good news that I will be posted at the end of the month, although it would appear that it is not mass recruitment, more as & when. One thing I would add is that the HR team in Newcastle seem to be overwhelmed with their workload, as even now, I have not yet received any paperwork to confirm the posting.

Did the jobcentre contact you to tell you that you have a position, or is this something your HR officer told you?
