My interview was at Hull at the begining of March, i received a letter about a week later telling me i'd been successful and that i was on a waiting list for to to 6mths. After 1 mth i rang Newcastle to ask where i was on the list, then i rang again after 2 mths, i was told all my checks had been processed and i would be getting a phone call in the next week or so. I actually got my call the next morning, i was offered a 16mth contract instead of the permanant position i originally applied for, they said all permanant posts had been filled by people on the list before me who had scored higher in their interviews, i was'nt happy about this but i feel lucky to have this in the current climate, and if i work well who knows i may be kept on. I hope this helps you, good luck.
Thanks so much for the info! Really helps me in determining whether i might actually be offered a position in the near future!
I also had an interview in Hull, but mine was in April! i didnt apply for the same batch as you, as i didnt even realise that there was any jobs going! Apparently they had to recruit again for more EOs because they didnt get enough the first time around (in March).
Anyway, ive been told that they wont start working there way through my waiting list until everybody on your list has been offered a position. So thats fair enough, but they wont give any indication of how many people are on your list....so I havent got a clue if im even gonna get a position within the 6 months. All i get told by the DWP is 'to be hopeful' that i might get a job.
Do you mind me asking what position you were on ure list? and do u know how many was on ure list? It would really help seen as i get absolutley no answers from the DWP! Also did you tick many of the different locations you wanted to work in?
Sorry about all the questions lol0 -
The way I see it it takes at least 7 to 8 weeks from the interview date to get consistent information or being offered a position. Also, for my eo position I thought i had no chances of getting it, since Ive been put on a waiting list for an ao position the previous week, but that was not the case. I had called Newcastle 4 to 5 times and the manager even recognised my voice, but when there was nothing to tell me, he told me he had no info on his desk. So hang on there and good luck to everyone, it ll be soon!I ve personnally lost my sleep now, I am starting on Monday, since Im very very stressed about how things are going to be as I 've never worked in an office. I was told from my advisor that on the interview date I must have shown great confidence (!) and that helped me to get the job. Also from my experience, its beneficial if the word team is mentioned during the interview; during my ao interview I didnt mention it at all..0

I was 70th on the March list, that was for the whole of the Humber/Yorkshire area, i don't know how many more were on the list. I picked two locations and i've been offered one of those. When i rang Newcastle both times to ask were i was on the list they were helpful, i would keep trying to find out if i was you.0 -
Hi all,
I had my interview on April 14th and got a success letter around 14 days later saying checks were taking place and that they will offer a position if there is one. I put Newcastles address on the CRB and Newcastle sent me it last week, so they must have received it a few days earlier than that. So my question is I have a holiday booked in late June for 10 days until the 5th July, say for example (more in hope that expectation) I receive a phone call for a start date soon and its for before I go on holiday, would this jeopardise my chances?0 -

When you get the call from a local manager re a start date, any notice requirements or holiday commitments will be taken into account at that time, so I wouldn't worry on that score. Good luck in your new job and enjoy your holiday!

I received successful letters for 3 positions as EO. First 2 are for 18 months contract and the 3rd is permanent. I am still waiting fot the CRB check to come back. As I naturally would choose the permanent position, I was wondering if one of you can suggest me wheter or not is better to call Newcastle now and tell them about my choice or wait longer to do that (On my successful letters there is no mentioning of such a list so on a hand I am worried something can go wrong with the permanent one but on the other hand I would't like to slow the process keeping them busy on the positions I am probably not going for).0

Well my advice would be to not do anything until you are offered a definate start date, if that's the permanent position then I'd call them and tell them you obv are taking yourself out of the running for the other two.
Not sure what the best course of action would be if one of the fixed term caught up before hand though and you was offered one of those. Don't know if accepting that would impact your chances of also getting offered the full time. Then again if you decline that on the basis that you're waiting on the full time, then didn't get the full time that would be kind of bad so not sure about that situation! Perhaps it might be better to ring them and just ask them truthfully what your best course of action is?whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0 -
Aoki, yeah it can only be a good thing.
Lili, 140... I didn't know it was that many, hopefully that means we might all get offered jobs :rolleyes:0 -
In addition to my previous post, can anyone else shed any light on the numbers being taken on for EO roles in South Tyne & Wear? The staff did clearly advise at interview that there were over 100 roles to fill and HR have verbally confirmed to me on the phone that everyone who was successful at interview (and therefore on the 12 months waiting list) would be taken on. Now, having had the interview on 1st April, I'm still none the wiser, and my most recent call to HR was worrying as the lad advised that things may not be so, and that perhaps not everyone would be taken on. Given that he has told me a few porkies so far and not been very professional overall, I'm reluctant to believe him ... can anyone please advise? I am continuing to apply for other roles, but having had hopes built up that they were taking on everyone, I keep hanging on to that hope that as I have been successful at interview, I should be hearing from them soon???!!!0

I doubt he's telling you porkies reebok probabally more of a misunderstanding if anything, can't see why he'd be lieing to you ;-)
The first thing you said sounds wrong to me, that those that were successful were put on a waiting list. In my experience the best candidates get a successful letter and the next best get put on the waiting list. There is two lists, one is a merit list and everyone is on that, but the waiting list is just candidates that ordinarily wouldn't have been offered a post after the interview, but gives them a second chance in case a position arises in the future. That's the way I see it anyway.
In your success letter who was the contact you was given on the letter to ask for advice? Is that the person you've called? If so, are you asking the right questions? Have you asked, if you are guaranteed a job subject to your pre-recruitment checks going through? What was his answer? Has he told you, you are on a 'maybe' waiting list, if so, then that speaks for itself.
If you really do believe this person is giving you poor advice you can always ask one of the other contacts on your success letter?
Just a few thoughts, good luck with it all!whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0
