DWP employment waiting list

  • I applied for the west midlands (tests at wolves football ground back in march - I think!) and had a call last week offering me a choice of 2 locations. I was surprised as I had found out I was 84 on the list. Which were your preferred locations?

Im glad you've told me this, thank you, you have given me hope! I was told that i am 137 on the list...she said there were over 200, but she couldn't remember how many exactly. I hope, therefore, that i may very soon get a phone call! I have applied to the three offices in the Walsall area and three offices in the Dudley area. Where did you decide on? Were these two locations your only preferences?

I knew there were a lot but I never thought it was over 200! I got offered Walsall and Bilston - the lady who phoned me was really nice and answered alot of my questions - I did end up turning them down though as I had also applied for the Shropshire recruitment and got offered a post with them much closer to where I live.

And don't worry about missing the call - they phoned me on both my mobile and my home number and left messages on both.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you - let us know when you 'get the call'

Well i feel a lot better now. I shall eagerly await 'the call' and let you know when i get it. Fingers crossed! I know it's a long shot, but do you have any idea about how many phone calls they get through a day/or week?...trying to mentally work out when i may get the call..im 50 below you, and it's been a week since you got your call..hmm

I am on a 12 month waiting list for an Executive Officer position with Jobcentre Plus. I applied for this position via an advertisement in the local newspaper. There was no mention of a waiting list just an 18 month temporary contract. Bearing in mind the role I applied for is in an environment that is encouraging and assisting people back in to the workplace and improving customer service, I find this whole situation a contradiction in terms.

I understand internal departments are under pressure due to the workloads but the DWP should not embark on a mass recruitment drive if they do not have the resources to manage it.

When you start work you will quickly realise that this exactly the kind of thing that will happen all the time as there is no spare capacity. Normally smart management at a local level gets the DWP through most things, but this is overwhelming and has cut right across local recruitment exercises that started before it became a national exercise. You need to be able to go with the flow as the DWP is much more reactive than proactive (any government dept paying out money has this same problem though). Having said that, this is an example of the DWP being proactive, as the numbers now being recruited are so high in anticipation of a huge rise in unemployment (as I said before 60%/70% increase by the end of 2010).

On another note I thought I'd just mention again that if you are applying for posts at different grades, the pass level of the tests is higher for higher grades. So if you passed at AO level you might still have to take new test(s) if your AO scores were not high enough for the EO level.
    Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...

    Hi there!

I have been advised by the Recruitment Dept at Newcastle that they only follow up your refs once they have recd your CRB back. This came about because I progress chased them about four weeks ago and was told my CRB had been mislaid ( despite me sending specifically to an individual) Once they had recd a faxed copy of my CRB the ref checks were completed the following day via HM Inland Revenue - so in my case it was a very quick turn around and I now have my start date!

    hope this helps!!!

PS, No checks were completed whilst they were waiting for my CRB. This came in the post to my home address in a plain brown envelope a week after my offer letter. Had it not been for a previous poster on this site commenting he had recd his and then sent it to Newcastle i would not have known this as I'd ( incorrectly) asumed I'd need to keep this on my personal file at home as my ex follows this process for her checks as a primary school teacher!

So if anybody receives theirs at their home address my advise would be
    1. Take a couple of copies
    2. Post the original in to the Newcastle Office by recorded/guaranteed delivery

Thanks Barney, congrats on getting your start date. I guess that Newcastle must have received my CRB back from Disclosure Scotland then, hopefully i'll hear something from them soon.

    Hi there.

Yeah i did phone them up to check about my CRB they did loose it. I emailed a copy over, and when i called again a week later i was told that all my checks were done and my details had been passed on and to expect a call (this was a week ago)..

I recommend to anyone that hasn't heard anything to double check that Newcastle have got your CRB...they seem to be loosing a lot of them.

You're spot on! - here i am, waiting for my CRB to come back from disclosure scotland having sent it off to DWP on 8th April and I emailed Disclosure Scotland today and they dont have my record and havent received it! What a complete joke! This is really getting me worked up now! I will be calling them very soon and sure to get my message across!

    Argggggh

    Hi everyone
I received a fixed term offer today as EO for 16mths, i'm hoping that if i work well and prove myself i'll be kept on, i realise that once the jobs market picks up a lot of DWP jobs will be shed, but i'll just try my best and hope.
I live near Grimsby, is there anyone out there in my area who is also on 16mths contract?

    Hi

I completed the online test on 11/4/09. I receviced a letter yesterday inviting me to an interview on the 21st of this month.

For the 1st part of the interview i have to prepare a 10 minute presentation on 'What are your key strengths as a leader?'

I got a letter this morning inviting me for interview on the 20th. Since I failed the EO interview not really looking forward to it.

Hey, I applied for a position at the end of march, had my selection tests on the 4th of April. They immediately informed those of us who had been successful and gave us a date for our interview. I took the interview on the 18th of April filling in CRB forms etc and on the 24th of April received a letter saying I'd been successful and pre recruitment checks were being undertaken. Since then I haven't heard anything though I take it from this thread that I should be expecting to wait another week or two minimum before I start to worry?

My only real concerns are that since my initial application I have began a new part time job but not informed the dwp and looking back I was a month or so out with when i began one of my jobs a few years back. I'm just hoping they don't pick up on this or that they're not so super strict that it effects my application. They do call you if they have any concerns along those lines i hope?

This is for the Marches district EO position in case anyone was wondering about timescales in this area.
