  • Hi all,

if you've applied for DWP and have been successful I recommend keep on job hunting. It is unlikely they will offer you a position. What the department have done is unethical in my opinion. They have conducted many recruitment exercises and wasted a huge amount of money without having immediate job vacancies.

The official word is the department will not be making anyone permanent who are of a fixed term contract. From my understanding some of the districts in London have already started letting people go. This might be the case all over the UK.

all applicants waiting for an offer or thinking about applying within CS (mainly DWP) the official stance is there will be a recruitment freeze until march 2011 all FTA contracts will not be renewed certain offices may get to keep 1/2 FTA by an extension but the chief sec will have to approve them so this is highly unlikely

the DWP sheds 3500 staff per annum which is the norm we have been told by management that they will not be replaced

also the DWP recruits 2000 staff per annum, that is also going to stop

any staff that DWP loose for what ever reason will not be replaced

the situation is so bad that senior management have asked for volunteers to work in diff districts e.g i work in Birmiungham and solihull but have been asked to work in staffordshire one month and then the Marches district the next month

Thanks for the info - what do you work as and where? Im a FTA but not heard anything on my contract yet...?

Re Recruitment freeze - I had a call this morning (before 9am - I was still in bed) to arrange a telephone heath screening for next Saturday (June 2010) for a FTA AO post. (I have already been through the interview, p60 and CRB stages). I was told at interview the intake would be mid June. Does this mean the recruitment is still going ahead or should I not get my hopes up?

Without trying to put a damper on things but DWP work in mysterious ways, may I ask where the vacancy is for which you have mentioned above.... Good luck by the way

  • There was a meeting at my office last week and all the FTAs were told that none of their contracts are going to be extended or made permanent.
Which is going to leave the rest of us in trouble because at least 25% of the office are FTA.
  • All fta's in my office (including me) were told we would not be getting kept on. Out of the blue this afternoon we were all taken in and asked to extend for 3 months.

I don't care if it is for only 3 months. That gives me more time to find permanent employment and pay my bills.

Nobody not even senior management expected this to happen. We were planning our leaving do. I phoned and cancelled my jsa interview

FTA's contracts at my branch will also be extended by 3 months.
