I wish they would make their minds up what they are going to do with the FTAs. Been offered another job, which whilst is a brilliant job, the wages are really bad. Do I take it, or if I do will I regret it if they keep the FTAs at the end of November !!
Really do not know what to do:(
Lol catch 22 - the same situation im thinkin i will experience no doubt sooner or later n which do i go for!?0 -
I'm in the same boat. It's highly unlikely, with so many cuts announced, that many (if any) FTA staff will be made permanent, so my advice to you would be to take the job.0

Take the brilliant job over your current one. I know I would. You say wages are bad but is it enough to cause financial hardship?0 -

In the same position myself i think if the other job is perminant you are prob safer taking it, i think i would0 -
Thanks for your replies. Gonna have a good think about it. Money is not too good, but better that JSA if I get finished at the end of my Contract in November. Plus its back in the field I originally came from, so at least I am back where I belong, even if a bit further down the scale than I was:D0

Considering you could be waiting months and months without hearing anything after you have passed the interview stage I would not hold much hope, but I wish you luck anyway
I had exactly the same letter in January in Bristol and have just come to six months (and not heard anything further). I know that the fixed term contracts of those at the job centres are running out in December, but keep holding out hope that they will need more people as the numbers of unemployed rise. Has anyone had a call? or job actually materialise?0 -

...always look on the bright side of life...~*~ If you don't need it, it isn't a bargain ~*~0 -
I doubt if there will be recruitment in December, there are some contracts due to end in Feb 2011 which are under doubt, but we have been told that if we are lucky there may be a few contracts extended but this depends on what happens within dwp as a service. External providers are one option who may actually take away the service of signing people and putting payments through.
All the ftas are hoping that they get extensions which makes more sense than training more new people, all the recruitment process will be looked at as this is one one way of saving money.
I will keep posting as we get news but I wouldn't be turning down any jobs in order to wait for a place in the civil service it could be a long wait.
We have 3 or 4 people leaving this month and there are no plans to replace them.:eek:0 -
Hello! I just happen to pass by this thread by accident. I work at a social security office. Can I just say, if you can get anything other than this..... then take it. Working for this employer is awful. You don't get a minute to relax, it's head down from the minute you go in until you leave. I now no longer speak to anyone in the office as you are on a timer to get back to work. You can't even stop and hold a door open for somone coming behind you as you are timed to get back to your desk and log back onto a telephone.
Okay I have a salary every month. Maybe I should not moan, but it's hard sometimes not to. I would not recommend DWP to anyone. If you have worked in other industry, you would be shocked at how this organisation is operated. They are not interested in advising a customer/applicant/claimant, just get them off the phone in three minutes. But with backlogs of work, the person on the phone does not accept "just phone next week for an update" I can't stand the place. I doubt this will change your want to get a job there, but honestly. It's the pits.0 -
I must say that I disagree but I don't deal over the phone I sign people and yes there are a few wasters but the majority are decent people who desperately want a job and feel degraded coming into sign .I treat people with respect because in a few months I might be signing on. I feel lucky to have got this job unfortunately the majority of my colleagues have petmanent jobs and they hate it. Perhaps they should find work elsewhere to see just how rough it really is!0
