DWP employment waiting list

  • I've been on the waiting list for an AO position since September last year. When I finally managed to get through to them on the phone they said I was 87th on the list! I very much doubt they have the positions to fill and are just using this as an exercise to keep existing civil servants busy.

I have noticed in my jobsearch elsewhere that a lot of companies seem to have realised that they can basically treat job seekers as they wish because people are so desperate for work.

I've been looking for work for 18 months and have probably applied for over 200 jobs in that time - less than a handful have ever come back to me to let me know whether I've been successful or not.

    It sucks!

Good luck stay positive, keep trying, every application takes you one step closer to your next job :)

Sweet Lord - you got the hint!!

    LOL

  • Thanks for cheering me up Dominic!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

They requested personal references for me too but I'm still on the waiting list. If they want to keep people hanging around for months on end then they should at least make some sort of discretionary payment for all our efforts.

You mean Job Seekers Allowance?? :rotfl::T

i will keep this short cos it seems im in the same boat as everyone else and have the same story

back in sept 09 applied for EO role.....irc62408....did the tests and interview....october got the 'on the list' letter

every month since then i have phoned them (and got through!) for progress report.....went from #41 to #8 in january......although the 30 in front of me was waiting on crb checks!

today i havnt been able to get thro to them on the number on the letter so decided to google for an alternative....found this thread..........kinda depressing to realise theres thousands in the same boat...thought i would join up and let everyone know how ive just got on with them

anyway........i worked my way thro some of the other numbers that got posted a page or two back...........on the 01912166596 number it got answered on the second ring!!......nearly fell off my chair with the shock :rotfl:

after a (very) quick chat with the woman, who didnt even want to check my name against the list told me that within the next 7 to 10 days everyone 'on the list' will get a letter in the post..........i asked if this was going to be a 'thanks but no thanks letter'?...........she said 'not necessarily......as theres 7 different kind of letters being sent out'..........so make of that what you will

im not holding my breath...............to be honest im kinda p****d off about it all........back when i applied it was for a job.....not a spot on a waiting list..feels like they have kept me dangling all these months with false promises......i even signed on this morning and my advisor asked me how it was progressing since they were overworked and understaffed

btw....heres another number for the list......01912166209...back in december it belonged to someone called Daniel Tolan

    best of luck, everyone

so its been two weeks since i last contacted them, decided to do it again today since i havnt had the 'magical' letter

got straight thro on the 6596 number.........had a chat and explained........was told that there is a country wide freeze on hiring and they dont know when it will be lifted.........so i asked about the letter that they told me was being sent out..........she checked my name and said an email (not a real physical letter) had been sent to me a week ago..............im afraid im calling bulls***t since i check my email addy several times a day and i havnt seen it .....so they are sending another one

just seems stupid to me...........i signed on yesterday and the office was overwhelmed.......sat down, signed and back out the door.....after standing waiting for 25 minutes!!!!.........seems those in power like to tell us they are doing everything possible to get us back to work, whilst doing the best to actually reduce the resources to do just that (all the while having their own snouts in the trough )......rant over..:D

Jess i cant believe your still posting on here....so unfair to think uve been here since way before i started....and i started in November after a very long wait!!

In regards to references, i also got asked for names of 2 personal references. I started my job on the 2nd of November and my references have never been contacted...so dont let that worry you xxx
  • I think this freeze on recruitment is a !!!! take lol. Ive been working with jobcentre since november and we were all recently told that fixed terms are not being kept on past there contract. If all of the fixed terms in my office were paid off then.....the office would be running purely on steam lol. Well not purely, but most days were short staffed so yeah good idea to get rid of a large bunch of us soon eh...makes sense lol!

i wont take this as a certain that they are going to check my references then! Not that i have anything to hide... seems a bit pointless personal references as nobody will put forward the names of people who might give a bad reference! :o

it is A£$e covering.. if they dont ask for references, they are not showing due dilligence in checking candidate suitability.. "damned if you do, damned if you dont" :o
  • I don't know for certain, but I gather that if you have recent/current employer references they check those, and your PAYE records for the last 3 years, if you don't have those, then they contact your personal references..
