I have, DWP Newcastle rang me today, to ascertain some information from my application form, apparently they have been inundated with applicants for these posts. I was told approx 1800 had applied, not sure how many completed the online test. I asked how many posts were currently available within the Pensions & Disability Dept and I was told 25 for the EO jobs @ Birmingham.

I was also told that DWP Newcastle were waiting to hear from the business centre how many people they were going to interview, before sending out the results at the end of this week.

I asked if they would be scored, I was told no, it will be an automated e-mail that states whether you have passed or failed and they they will contact you again separately to advise of an interview date.

Good Luck to all those who have applied, myself included and may the best applicants get the jobs - woohoooooo!

Thank you so much for your reply - it is people like yourself that contribute in a positive manner and help others out - people like you FIRST deserve a job with DWP!

wow that is an astonishing number - 1800 for 25 posts!? LOL

What did they want to know about your app form?

Good luck comper, hope there really are jobs at the end of this, and other IRC numbers.
  • I've been on the waiting list for an AO position since September last year. When I finally managed to get through to them on the phone they said I was 87th on the list! I very much doubt they have the positions to fill and are just using this as an exercise to keep existing civil servants busy.

I have noticed in my jobsearch elsewhere that a lot of companies seem to have realised that they can basically treat job seekers as they wish because people are so desperate for work.

I've been looking for work for 18 months and have probably applied for over 200 jobs in that time - less than a handful have ever come back to me to let me know whether I've been successful or not.

    It sucks!

Has anyone in this thread applied for the EO jobs in Blackpool? I've met a couple of people on here who have.

I'm just interested to know where you're all up to with the pre-recruitment checks? Got my CRB certificate through the post a few days ago (it's already been to dwp but then been sent on to me) but so far they've not contacted my references! At what point do the "waiting list" letters usually get sent out?
  • Has anyone heard of anything from IRC62979 London recently!!!! :(
  • RE: IRC 62979

I sent them an e-mail a couple of weeks ago, and was told I was number 300 and something, but I'm not sure if that includes all the people on the list who have already been offered a job and started, or whether that's my number at the present moment in time. Either way however, I've given up on this job, and have decided to move on and apply elsewhere. But here is the reply I got from them anyway:

Thank you for your email of the 11th February 2010 requesting an update on exercise IRC62979.

Allow me to explain that Jobcentre Plus initially anticipated that they would be in a position to offer posts to all successful candidates in these selection exercises following completion of pre- appointment checks.

I should advise that, whilst Employee Services Resourcing administers selection activity on behalf of Jobcentreplus, any offer of employment is made by the local business area and will be dependant upon individual business needs.

Regrettably, the significant number of successful applications for these posts necessitated a full review of Jobcentre Plus's staffing position and the recent changes in the economic climate; Jobcentre Plus have been forced to alter their workforce management plans and are currently not in a position to progress your application any further.

With regards to the wording of our recent correspondence issued to you, this is intended only to advise candidates that should they have applied for other vacancies with the Department, and be awaiting an update as to their status, they may receive a similar letter. I appreciate that given the timescales candidates may have subsequently progressed through other selection exercises.

I do genuinely understand how disappointed you will be with this outcome and I hope that you will accept my apologies for any inconvenience or distress caused.

I regret that I am unable to offer any recourse, however should you have any additional enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

References aren't normally checked through previous employers but through your tax records I believe. :):):)
