DWP employment waiting list

IRC 62876
I applied for this position in September last year and was successful, CRB checks and references are now complete. I received a letter in December to say that I was on the waiting list until June. I rang up to find out that I'm 53rd on the waiting list and was just wondering if anyone knew how many people have been recruited for this position so far (they wouldn't tell me at DWP)? Are they likely to be posting anymore people in the next 6 months? Am I wasting my time thinking I might have a job? (already turned one down last year because I wanted this one :-()
Would be grateful for any help or info on IRC 62876.
Really, really, really want this job! :-)0 -

I dont think your position on the list is too relevant.. it isn't clear if the list is ordered by performance at test/interview or if it is according to how quickly you are processed by employee resourcing.. (perhaps someone should ask!?!)
If the IRC you are waiting on is for a permanent role, take any job offers that come, you can always leave if the DWP role is offered to you.
If the IRC is a temp or contract role, I owuldnt pass up a job offer on the offchance.. even if you got the DWP role there is plenty of evidence to suggest folk do not get the 18 months originally suggested.. and some have been told as little as 3 months..0 -
So are the sifting tests sent out to everyone who sends in an application for the job?0

Oh right I see, Have you any experience in order to apply for the decision maker role?
Do you mean "do you have to have any experience" ??
No - the job advert will have given you details of which of the standard competencies are required, and which level - you just need to read those, and should you get to interviews, your questions will be "give an example where you did XXX" For example it might be "managing Change" So that might be working for a company where something had to be done a new way and you managed that, or Your Kid went to Senior school, so you had to make arrangements for child care in the morning while you drove the child to a new school further away.. or changing your usual routine because you had to care for a relative ..
I have said before, the interviewers are looking for example not "truth" here.. You may not have a very good or strong example to use.. but there is absolutley no harm in embellishing it - for example I had to give one on good customer service. The example I chose was one I was involved in with a co worker, but in giving the example I just mentioned my involvement and made it a single person task - it is safe to do this, they do not ask for detials so they cannot check if it is "true"!
If you look back you will see references to STAR for these interviews.. basically stands for S (Situation - where and when it happened) T (Task - what had to be done or achieved) A (Action YOU took to make it happen) R (results that came about from your actions). The interviewers are not quizzing you really, they have key words and actions they want to hear you say (they may promt to get you to say something.. this is not "bad") the one key thing is "I" the question is about you and your competency.. not you and the competency of your colleagues or family.. so say "I did, I made, I managed, I checked" and so on.. not "We" or worse still It..
By the way, for competency based interviews you are permitted and even encouraged to make notes before, and take them in with you to refer to.. you will have to give one example for each competency so you can pick a good example and make some brief notes that can be adapted according to how the question is asked.
One tip I would give to nay job hunters out there who seem a bit apprehensive or unnerved.. even if you see a role and are unsure if it is for you, the best thing you can do is give the application a go - if you dont pass, so what.. you wont be the only one.. what you will get is experience.. good practice for when a job comes along that is really important to you. If you lack confidence.. better to have fluffed it on 2 or 3 unimportant jobs and get some practice and confidence so you know what to expect then when the right job comes along, you will appear more confident and positive, and massively improve your chances of being picked.

I do not believe what I have just witnessed. Yvette Cooper as brazen as you like on Sky News saying how proud the government is about what a good job they have done in increasing the amount of DWP jobs in Jobcentreplus.
DISGUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

What else can you expect from this lot? They are out of touch with reality, the recession is biting and DWP is woefully under staffed to cope with the workload. :mad:0
