Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP not dear Mrs
What address did you send it to? By the way perhaps she has more pressing matters to attend to as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions than the puerile ramblings of someone with nothing better to do with their time than complain because they are unemployed. Perhaps when you are a taxpayer again you can start complaining about how our money is being spent?
Your tone is very disrespectful if someone wrote to me with that tone the letter would go straight into the waste paper bin.
Also.. you have complained about 'the total lack of disregard' that actually means 'the total regard'...
EDIT: I should say that I am not trying to belittle your case, or your frustration - i'm just pretty vexated by the way people are !!!!!ing at the Government as if this is their fault. We were in the biggest financial crisis of our time. The Government were reacting as best they could to ensure the public services were up to the job. No person here was actually told 'you have been successful and will be starting on XXX date' and then had this taken away. They were told they had passed the interview and would be contacted once checks had been completed, this is very different. How long do you think it takes our Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to consider the response to these letters, how many combined hours are wasted on this? What do you want her to do, apologise? Why? Would you rather they employed everyone on the lists so even more jobs could be culled after the next election? Or would you rather they continued with the recruitment process despite having realised they no longer need the staff? They are human beings not beings blessed with paranormal crystal balls. Good luck with your job hunting those that haven't got through, I really think it's time to be moving on...

My complaint is not being unemployed!! it is the total waste of time, money & effort of being successful for 3 IRC's for what! and for your information I HAVE PAID MY TAXES FOR THE LAST 31 YEARS, SO YES I CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW MONEY HAS BEEN SPENT!
And to say my tone is very disrespectful, every post I have read on here of yours is ignorant, belittling, offensive and rude, shove your opinion apolonation go & give your high & mighty advice elsewhere!!0 -

I have been reading the goings on of 'aplonation' or whatever their name is. I really wouldn't give this person any credit whatsoever. They are rude, obnoxious and just looking to wind you up.
As far as I am concerned he/she is better off ignored, unless they have something decent to say that is of benefit to others on this forum, from what I have read so far I do not think this is the case. :rotfl:
It says as much when they post something in the heat of the moment and then have to edit their post to explain and justify their own comments, sounds to me like someone needs to get a life - enough said I think!

If you don't want to proceed with the application, would you enter the online test anyway and let me know whether it's a numeracy and literacy test or whether it is asking you about certain competencies - thanks in advance0

Thats a shame will have to wait and see if any other come up in Birmingham!

Thanks for the quick reply,
Even if i get to interview I'll have to give it a miss, I must have misread as I didnt realise that it was to be a team leader!
You aren't very likely to be a team leader in an EO post, you are much more likely to be a Personal Adviser as said above (they are the advisers you see for your longer interviews when you go to the jobcentre). I wouldn't let the small possibility of it being a minor managerial role put you off.0 -
Online tests:
If one is associated with the selection process for a job, you have to complete it to be considered - even if you have already done one.. and it may be an identical one.. but there are no exemptions.
I have seen 2 types of test.. the first was for an EO role within JCP. The test consisted of a series of questions (15?) where you get a question plus 4 answers. you have to rate the 4 answers 1,2,3,4 according to which you the one you would most prefer and least prefer.. Common sense should get you through this relatively easily... I gather this test is used as a pre select test for roles being recruited by Capita and Manpower.. usually with these roles if you pass you will be invited to an assessment and interview day, where you sit a numeracy and literacy test - those who fail are sent home, those who pass sit around and get interviewed. If you pass these tests, you get a certificate valid for a year - but it only exempts you from sitting the numeracy and literacy tests.. See online test 2..
Online Test 2: This is run by DWP staff, and has 35 or 36 questions which you have to complete in one session and is time limited to 75 Minutes - although some questions are tricky, you should easily complete the test in the set time. MAKE SURE you have a notepad and pen/pencil, and a working calculator! you need both. The questions vary, but some are numeracy - particularly percentages.. The more involved ones have multiple data tables from which you have to extract relevant information - I seem to remember mine was about rooms at a college.. there was a table listing rooms, one listing seating capacites, one listing how many computers are available, and another the times the room was available.. a typical question would be How many students could study using a computer between 7pm and 9pm on a Tuesday.. involved, but not "difficult" maths.. the percentages are a bit trickier.. The other questions describe offcie scenarios and you have to answer a series of questions on each one.. the questions ask you to rate a solution from -3 to +3 where +3 is "A very positive result/outcome" and -3 the opposite. Again, common sesne will get you through this if you bear in mind how you would like to be treated.. then apply that to your answer..
Note that your Numeracy and literacy passes from test type one do not give you an exemption, and you still need to do the test online. I did the same test twice in 2 weeks.. one for an EO role, one for an AO role.. Each test has a pass mark, the AO grade jobs require a lower pass overall.
AO vs EO - despite the job being rated "team leader" this is not a high flying senior manager role!! you "may" get to decide staffing rotas and who does what, but don't expect to be boss of all you survey.. many EO's do stand alone work anyway.
Competency based interviews have one benefit.. you get asked to give an example where you have done something. For example "give an example where you feel you have given good customer service" . you an apply this to any example in your work, student, social or family life.. the term "customer" just means the person who benefitted..
DO NOT rule out applying because you fear you may not be up to the job.. competency interviews will assess you very well, if you get the job offer, you are capable of doing the job.. trust me!! There is a very young person applying for an EO role who has limited work exp and they were worried they might be rejected for being too young.. but they passed the tests so move on to stage 3.
After the interviews and tests, your details get sent to Employee Services in Newcastle.. this is an admin team servicing all DWP jobs.. they are NOT the recruiters.. all the do is send off CRB check forms, collate responses and apply for your references etc.. if these are all satisfactory, they pass your details to the office recruiting for the role, and they make the actual job offer.. this is the so called "merit" list though where you are on the list does not always indicate the priority in which any offers are made..
DO NOT assume the letter from employee services saying you have passed all the recruitment checks is a job offer.. it isn't.. there may be 20 jobs and 100 people pass the tests and checks...
Hope that helps0
